I returned my Filson bush jacket. The sizing was way too weird and wrong and the fabric seemed way too light weight. Unfortunate that they are now part of some conglomerate. That spells doom.

I picked up a couple of English Tweed Jackets, one sporting, one serious. Green/brown color. I'd like to get some trousers made that would be sympathetic to the coloration and weave. Any suggestions for a tailor, Hong Kong or otherwise? Not bespoke, as I would be unlikely to travel to visit...
Well, I had the misfortune to attempt to view Iron Sky. It's bloody awful. The special effects are nice, but it's really bad when a "comedy" isn't funny. Maybe the Fin's laughed hysterically, but this film wasn't even bad enough to be funny. You are better off watching "Plan Nine from Outer...
Regarding "Hitler's Willing Executioners", I would not recommend it either. If you read "Explaining Hitler" by Ron Rosenbaum you will see that most Holocaust scholars tend to discredit it due to serious misinterpretations the author made...
Thank you Futwick! I've not been aware of this book, but thanks to you I've just ordered it. And am looking forward to reading it too.
I'll post an after-reading report.

Well at least he's spending his money rather then letting sit in some Swiss bank account!
According to the Guardian article, the best suites are selling out - at $1,000,000 each for the initial voyage. And I thought $30,000 for the best suites on Queen Mary 2 were expensive!

Thanks James! I'll try the Camaronazo.
I tried a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of tomato juice and Zing Zang and it made a nice spicy tomato juice, but not a Bloody Mary!
Tony
I picked up a bottle of the Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and found it a bit disappointing. Yes, it really is spicy, which is good. But it's way too salty - a "serving" contains 25% of the daily requirements of salt! Interesting that they use anchovy for the salt content. I'm going to try to...
I recently ran the Robert Wise film “The Hindenburg” and found it was as bad a film now as it was when I saw it in original release. The film has no energy, there is no suspense and the acting is uniformly, shall we say, uninspired. The characters were all either dull or unpleasant, eliciting...
In 1957 Nevil Shute also wrote the fabulous book "On the Beach" about the aftermath of a nuclear war, set in Australia. I had no idea he was an aircraft engineer, yet alone worked on airships.
Here is a link to a website about him: http://www.nevilshute.org/index.php
I just finished...
randooch requested that I post a picture of a painting which I commented on in the thread “Your Favorite Paintings”.

This is the painting , “The Expectation”, by Richard Oelze, done in 1935. Oelze studied...

The Expectation (Richard Oelze - 1935)
This one seems to be a premonition of the writings of J. G. Ballard.
This is a great thread! Art is very personal and must resonate with the viewer, one way or the other.

I have a Filson Cover Cloth Weekender Coat which I bought at Orvis in San Francisco last year. Tried a lot of sizes and other types, but for some reason this one fit best as an Extra Large, even though I normally take a Large. It fits loose, but very comfortable. Since it's been getting cold...
I just received a Filson Bush Jacket which I bought on their winter sale. For some reason I can't insert the catalog photograph of the jacket - "invalid URL" or something. Anyway, I'm rather disappointed and will probably return it. My first problem is the cloth weight - boy is it light...
