Neither of those is exactly what I was...
Here is an example of the kind of breeches I mentioned, from the Imperial War Museum collection (so there's no question that they're genuine).
As you can see, they have doubled braces buttons on the front.
I'm a bit busy right now, so I can't make an illustration, but on the braces on the left in your picture, each of the two straps has one buttonhole. Imagine wider straps, each with two adjacent buttonholes. I'm fairly sure I've seen braces like that, but can't find a picture right now.
Yes...
I've seen doubled braces buttons like that on military uniform trousers/breeches from the 30s/40s.
I'd say these trousers were either made to fit double-button braces, or adapted to them.
These ones (above) are from an eBay seller, they're advertised as WW2 GERMAN UNIFORM INTERNAL SUSPENDERS but they're modern and don't resemble any genuine 1940s braces I've seen. The sellers are a Chinese company that makes military "reproduction" stuff, not very convincing if you're familiar...
I've seen "runner end" used to describe any braces that aren't clip-ons, more often than I've seen it used to mean specifically runner-ended braces.
Anyhoo, British Braces sells some of those Sophos Braces a LOT cheaper than Fogey...
Well, my point was entirely worth repeating, since some folks seem unable to grasp it. Probably needs to be repeated and restated many times. Thanks for your helpful response.
I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it already, and I'm not going to read through 27 pages to find out, but I've raised this point here in other threads: There never was a rule that hats were always supposed to be removed indoors.
I'm talking about in society in general - you may have...
About six months ago I bought three wool caps on eBay for a total of around AUD$50 delivered to Australia from the US. The seller claimed they were US military spec, and I see no reason to doubt it. They're definitely all-wool. I've worn one of them a lot (keeping the others in reserve) and I am...
Some people are way too hung up on silly arbitrary "rules". Such "rules" don't serve any real purpose and exist only to give an excuse to attack others.
Here's my rule: you may wear anything you like anywhere you like and you are free to tell anyone who gives you a hard time over it to mind...
Looks far more English than American to me. That kid, front row centre, is wearing the classic English schoolboy cap.
ETA: Bowlers were very common working class hats in the 19th century, they went out of fashion with the lower classes around the WW1 period, which is why Charlie Chaplin and...
Australian artist John Brack. Do a Google Image Search on his name.
