If we're limiting our list to newer films that portray earlier times, then the ones already mentioned are great. I will add:
Seabiscuit - 2003
A River Runs Through It - 1992 (Many different hat styles, but some nice fedoras in the mix)
Tucker, The Man and His Dream - 1988 (This movie broke my...
I posted this originally in the Moustache Wax thread.
Taken outside a few days ago. That tree has no leaves left now. Over my right shoulder, past the tree, CORN FIELD.
If looking for fedoras and Bogie, why not Maltese Falcon (1941)? Arguably not his best movie, but he, Ward Bond, others, all sport fedoras
And on a lighter note
Harvey (1950) Jimmy Stewart not only wears a fedora, he carries one for the puca
His Girl Friday (1940) Cary Grant wears his fedora...
Arsenic and Old Lace. Our family normally watches this one together around this time of the year. And before Halloween, we'll get a chance to see "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein".
We are watching "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon"
Not strictly a horror film.
There is a graveyard, blood, a guy gets thrown into a fire, there's a storm. If it had a kook with a hockey mask you'd swear it was horrorific
"Murder Over New York" Charlie Chan goes to New York City to attend a police conference and SURPRISE, somebody get's killed and it's up to him to help Donald MacBride find the killer. I went to a conference once, and the wind blew my ball-cap away when I got out of a cab. I was glad I wasn't...
"The Magnificent Seven"
A ton of great scenes in this one, but my favorite exchange will always be (following gun shots) McQueen: You elected? Bryner: No, but I was nominated real good. (as he removes a cigar from his mouth - a cigar that has had the end shot off while clenched in Yul's teeth)
"The Longest Day" (All Star Cast telling the story of D-Day. I especially appreciate the fact the Germans speak German, the French speak French and the Fuehrer has taken a sleeping pill)
Watched the best WC Fields scenes from "The Big Broadcast of 1938", "International House" and "Honest John"
Is this Kansas City Kansas or Kansas City Missouri?
The "Game of Shadows" 2nd Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie.
Had a ball watching it. Nice that the end of Moriarty is at least in the same vein as his demise in Conan Doyle's story. However, the chase through the woods seemed to be a little bit much. And Mycroft! Get yer clothes on!!!
I...
OK, got it done. They Were Expendable. I know, it's an old movie, but I still get choked up a little watching this. Nice to know I'm not the only one that appreciates it.
In Harm's Way. John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Patricia Neal a whole bunch of other people AND Slim Pickens!
Good WWII movie. Now I'm itching to watch They Were Expendable again
