The only thing you can do is shop around. Try ebay, where vintage pieces are often listed with measurements, using the size selection in the side bar.
Try on all pieces in vintage shops.

That red one is gorgeous. It would fit me, but I don't like bidding wars- I get attached to things easily and then get upset if I don't win! lol I hope one of the girls on here gets it.
It looks like one person has come into a lot of them and is selling them all.
