Nice finds DNO, I've never found a vintage cocktail recipe book, only cook books.
I wish I could help on dating the Gordon's book, I'm surprised it wasn't dated on the first few pages.
Sometimes I can tell within 5 years just by the type faces or images used. I'd also say very late teens to...
Wish I had more time to work on my AE34, still too busy to devote the proper time to it.
But, I remembered that I took this photo of it on my desk last year when I bought a 1936 Bell Telephone directory for Toronto, thought I'd share it here.
By trying to get a moody nighttime shot of it...
I'm fairly sure you've started a new collection! ;)
Nice find, you don't often see this era of phone in good shape. That's the kind of phone I remember growing up with in the 1980s, same colour too; my parents played it safe with beige everything in our house.
Does the number on the card...
Just wondering, DNO and/or LizzieMaine, where did Lizzie post those good wiring instructions for the 302? I've searched the forum, and it is really tricky to find. I have two N.E. model 302s, the c.1956 version doesn't work yet and needs to be line corded, etc.
Can I just copy the wire...
Of course, I'd much rather have one of the old Chevys in this video, don't care much for the Trax. Although, I like the commercial overall for the vintage aspect.

- Hi tonyb, I've decided to refinish it black with all the brass parts polished, bare of paint. I hope there's no imperfections with the final sanding, but if there is, I was thinking of spreading a spot filler like you mentioned over those areas.
- DNO, thank you kindly for the offer to keep...
Damn, I've been looking for vintage hats that will actually fit my big head and have not found a single one yet! You're very fortunate!
I can easily find nice items that were in a vintage house, but to clothe myself vintage... that's a much larger problem that I've been trying to solve, with...
DNO - Happy I could motivate you to get some parts for your phone from them, I don't think you'll be displeased. They actually produce their own cloth wire, there's a video of the machine that makes it on their youtube channel.
Is it possible your AE was formerly used as part of some type of...
- Hi 1930artdeco, you can use a pulse-to-tone converter for some systems like the one here.
There is also another product, a "mini-network" that allows you to connect to a more modern system. This link is for one to convert a candlestick phone. Other than these two, there are more options...
Hmmm, I'm also having a few strange occurrences with my AE40 of volume drop off. I wonder if AEs don't "like" to be installed on Bell Telephone Co. lines.
Look at what arrived in the mail today!
New rubber gasket and line cords I ordered from oldphoneworks.
So happy to discover this is the...
Sorry to hear about the ankle injury DNO, that's probably the only reason I got to the AE40 before you did.
Thank you for the dial cover instructions, but I think mine was tricky to remove because somebody bent it out of shape years ago. I need to hammer out the old dents.
Great, taking a...
Thanks David, yes, you're right, there are some strange little differences between the US and Canadian models. Will have to look much closer at these pics.
I'm pretty sure the repro gasket is for the base, not the dial. There is no rubber gasket on the dial... geez, I hope I'm right! :-0
Yep, it was oldphoneworks! He has a gasket that works for both the AE34 and AE40. Here's the link:

I haven't gotten the candlestick working yet, that will be my next project.

With the primer coat, the big flaws became even more apparent. Time for bondo, I think.
Can't believe how bad the front was smashed. At least that old fiberglass repair is sturdy, even though it isn't pretty.
Yesterday I found a Canadian vintage telephone parts seller /...
Back in 2007 I bought a 1934 Automatic Electric AE34 "Monophone" telephone, in rough shape, but very cheap.
The main body of the phone was damaged, but repaired in a somewhat sloppy way by the previous owner.
He told me that his mother worked as a nurse many years ago in a Toronto hospital and...
Just saying, It's not really an employee hustle if the managers are in on it as well. ;-)
I also noticed that once they found out a new "old" item I liked to buy, all of the sudden that item became very scarce to buy. And no, it's not that I don't know the good times to hit the sales floor.
In...
Goodwill doesn't seem to be doing very well at all in our area lately, too many thieving opportunists.
I wouldn't be surprised if they shut down completely in the local area. Too many of their employees cut off the merchandise before it can even get to the sales floor. They grab it for...
Great finds DNO!
Have to admit, I've never seen that model of Singer before. Beautiful, in an almost "brutalist" style of industrial design.
I also went to Goodwill today and found squat, so to me you are definitely having a bout of good luck!
