    Land Line Phone

I have a Magic Jack hooked up to my cable modem and then I have a 4 station cordless hooked to the Magic Jack. I have been running like this for over 4 years and I love it. Once I was certain I would like running this way, I prepaid for the service so now I won't have a phone bill until...

    What's for Dinner?

You all are making me hungry. Tonight I splurged and had navy beans with brown rice. For a late night snack I had a small plate of raw veggies. I have very little of my pancreas left, so I cannot eat any fats, therefore my diet is very very bland anymore.

Highest price paid, lowest price paid for your fedora.

My highest paid was about $175 for my Biltmore President and my Stetson Whippet. The lowest I paid was $50 for a gray wool felt that will soon be relegated yard usage once my caribou Stratoliner is finished.

"Thirty Things that Need to Stage a Comeback"

I remember well many of the stories my grandmother told me about her life on the farm. She had a wood stove to cook on for the family, and she also had wood shingles on the roof of the house and many times she would have to stop cooking to climb on the roof to put out the fire caused by the...

Men: Would it bother you if your wife were the main "bread winner" in the family?

This May will be our 39th wedding anniversary. In those many years there have been times that I was the primary bread winner, times when my wife was the primary bread winner. We figure that we will do what we can to support each other. At this time of our lives, my wife is making just a bit...

What gives you that vintage feeling?

I get that vintage feeling every time I look in the mirror. I see my father staring back at me.

"Thirty Things that Need to Stage a Comeback"

And we cannot forget the Fuller Brush man. In my home town the local dry cleaning shop would deliver and pick up, so we had the Dry Cleaning man also.

"Thirty Things that Need to Stage a Comeback"

I have gone through most of this thread and I cannot find much to disagree with. The one thing I miss is being dressed well when going out for a meal. If my wife and I go out to eat it is usually a special event so we will dress for the occasion. I will be wearing a tie and a proper jacket...

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

I have been smoking more of my 7 year old 2016 in a brand new Savinelli Long John. The pipe promises to be a good performer.

    "Where there's tea, there's hope"

I get my teas online, and this company has been very good to me. Although I do not drink Earl Grey teas, I have ordered some for friends who do drink it and they seem to like what I sent to them quite well... http://www.svtea.com/products.asp?dept=13

    "Where there's tea, there's hope"

My favorite is a strong pot of China Black (Yunnan) brewed in my ancient Brown Betty and decanted into one of my ceramic pots, kept warm over a warmer. I am not supposed to have caffeine, but I do allow myself at least one pot of tea a week. I just love the entire ritual of brewing tea.

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

I have been smoking McClelland's 2015 that I stored in my cellar back in March 2006. The years have been very very good for this tobacco. I have been burning that tobacco in a Bing's Favorite and enjoying every minute.

    Your favorite movie quotes

My favorite quotes come from two very different Katharine Hepburn movies Oh, we're going to talk about me again, are we? Goody. I'd hang you from the nipples, but you'd shock the children.

    As time goes by ...

I love reading stories like the ones here. My father's mother was born in 1893 and lived until 1987. I got to know her quite well. She would tell me stories of her grandfather, who she knew very well. He was born in 1812 and lived to be 99 years old, so it seemed almost like I had a direct...

    Post office from hell!!!!

A few years ago one of the pipe makers on a pipe forum I read had the same problem with packages being stolen. His solution was to set up a small web cam which monitored the area where the thefts were taking place and in no time he had enough evidence to show that the carrier was stealing the...

F/S: Vintage patch-pocket sport jackets, larger sizes!

Those are great jackets and the chest size is close enough for me, but the sleeve lengths are just a bit too short on all of them. If you find one with sleeve lengths around 26 1/2" or just a tad longer, then we will do business.

    What are you listening to?

I am sitting at work right now with my Windows 8 tablet tuned to the local police scanner. Nothing better than listening to police working on an early Sunday morning.

A new chapter in my life

If I purchase a hat from DelMonico online based on this thread will you get a commission? Just trying to help out where I can :-) Some people have all the luck when it comes to their working life. Now if I can just find a job that pays well for me to buy hats.

The nicest comment I ever heard

The latest response I received was not a verbal compliment, but a stare that spoke volumes. I had to get some blood work done and the lab seems to cater to the elderly. Heck I guess I am in that category now. I just got off work, so I was still dressed in my wool slacks, dress shirt, nice bow...

    How To Sew brace buttons

I have been sewing my suspender buttons with a 3 inch spacing. The inner most front buttons I place directly over the inner most pleat (90% of my pants are pleated) and the rear buttons I space at 1 1/2 inches from the center seam. I wear the tabs to my suspenders on the outside so the buttons...
