    What are you listening to?

My sweet wife got me a 2 CD set of Glenn Miller and that has been keeping me entertained on my commute to work. On my Pandora I have a few stations set up... Fletcher Henderson, Woody Herman, and a couple of Artie Shaw stations.

First TV show you ever watched (and can recall)

The first show that I can remember was Winky Dink. Mom got me the special plastic so I could draw on the TV screen. Along with Winky Dink I also remember watching Liberace and the original Dragnet. I could not have been much more than 3 or 4 years old when I drew along with Winky Dink, so...

What do you use to shave?

I use a very heavy Edwin Jagger double edge razor with an Edwin Jagger best badger brush. My shaving bowl is just a small round bowl that came with some inexpensive shaving soap. My soap is usually Van Der Hagen Luxury. To keep my pencil mustache I rely on an old Schick Dial injector from...

    Ghost signs

You can just barely see the sign on the rocks. It has faded even more recently, but here is one as seen from Harpers Ferry, WV.

What coffee or tea did you drink today?

I am brewing up a pot of China Black tea. I used to drink home roasted coffee by the gallon until my body began to not enjoy it as much as I did. Odd, after 58 years of coffee drinking you would think the old body would be used to it by now.

Who Did You Just See Live?

I just saw The Spinners this weekend. They were excellent, and I heard from the events manager that the band had such a good time they asked to be booked again in the near future.

    What are you listening to?

Tonight I have been listening to the 4 CD set of Artie Shaw's live broadcasts from 1938 and 1939. Well, I am not listening to the entire 4 CDs since I am at work, but I made it half way through CD 1 on the commute to work. The last song I heard was one of Artie's longer versions of In The...

Old smells, that immeditately transport you back in time?

For the first 6 years of my life I lived in the largest city of our state. Also, my mother did not drive, so anytime we went anywhere we took the bus (since dad worked out of town so much). So to this day, anytime I smell the aroma of diesel fumes I am taken back to a time and place that I can...

    Vintage Coffee Makers

I usually make my morning coffee in a Melita pour over pot, but just for old times sake I have a couple electric percolators a non-electric percolator, but the pride of my coffee making arsenal is an old drip-o-lator that I will sometimes use.

What pens are we carrying today?

Today I am carrying my Lamy Studio. I hope to get a little bit of writing done in just a bit and I find the words tend to flow more easily when I am using a nice fountain pen.

    Your favorite movie quotes

Well, that covers a lot of ground. Say, you cover a lot of ground yourself. You'd better beat it, I hear they're gonna tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing. You can leave in a taxi. If you can't get a taxi, you can leave in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave...

    Canning

My family all canned and I also canned for years when I had time to raise a garden. Honestly, it is not that difficult as long as you remember to keep everything clean. I have used both hot water baths and pressure canning. When I had a bumper crop of tomatoes I would make up huge batches of...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

My dear sweet wife has been losing so much weight lately she said that she needed some new slacks that would actually stay up on their own, so I went with her to the clothing store. I wore my Caribou Stetson Stratoliner. As the wife was shopping I wandered over the the men's section and...

    Proper Barber Shop

I have a wonderful old style barber shop that I have been going to for years. I try to get the same barber, but some days that is just not possible. However, no matter what barber I get I can tell them tapered sides and back #2 clipper, just enough to comb over on the top and I receive a very...

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

Some of the best meers I ever smoked came from Altinok pipes. Their prices (at least when I was buying) were not that bad if you could just wait for them to be made and delivered by a very slow boat from Turkey. Sinan Altinok takes pride in what he sells and I never had a bad pipe from him.

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

My go to pipes have always been Savinelli or Tinsky's. It is unfortunate that I sold almost all of my pipes back in 2012 when doctors told me to never smoke again. After a month in the hospital I believed what they said and sold my pipes and got rid of way too much aged tobacco. Now I just...
