    Alpha Industries M65 Field Jacket

This is probably buried somewhere in this thread, so I apologize for any redundency. I was helping someone clean out their basement, and I ran into an old Greenbrier women's field jacket, size 14R, made in 1975. What surprised me was the fake breast pockets. They were just pocket flaps sewn...

USAF N-3B parkas - Let's talk about them!!

I've been looking to replace an MA-1, but I've been hesitant for this very fact. Because they're now a standard fashion item for both men and women, they're no longer really a jacket. It's now a top piece, like throwing on a cardigan. Many of them appear to have no insulation. I guess for the...

    Show us your Vintage Rucksacks!

https://www.militarysurplusworld.com/product-eng-43725-GERMAN-IMP-MOUNTAIN-RUCKSACK-LEATHER-STRAPS-OD-MILTEC.html Boiling up an old thread. This pack has already been mentioned a couple times in this thread. 1) Does anyone know of an online surplus store with used/vintage models of this...

    Alpha Industries M65 Field Jacket

One of the handy ways they're designed is the layers aren't hemmed closed. You can almost turn them completely inside out without cutting a stitch. Come from the bottom of the jacket. I think one of my tears was right above the chest pocket, where the GI's name was stitched. Can barely tell it...

    Alpha Industries M65 Field Jacket

I was gifted one of those. I think it is either 1966 or 1968. I'd have to check. A couple rips that I repaired with iron-on patches from behind the face of the material, so it is barely noticeable. Those patches are great.

Has Anyone Sent Shoes Back To The Manufacturer?

I've had moc toes unravel exactly like that, and I've only owned one or two of the style. I've seen it on work sites too. I've wondered if it was inherent to the style and common to the construction of moc toes.

    Florsheim Shoes

I remember they showed a close up of his shoe while he brush buffed it, and they were really ugly muted moc toe like black patent leather shoes. He was a basic dresser, but his shoes were another level or two below that. I would have thought he had basic wingtips, but that would have been a...

    Florsheim Shoes

Fifty150 is bringing up a good point about resoles. If a $500 boot costs $100 to resole, that's a substantial perk, but if it costs $200-300 and a multi-month wait from the original maker, it changes things. I don't know about you, but if I spend $500+ on a pair of shoes, I'm not likely to hand...

I'm looking for a pair of boots

I believe Cabelas used to have a model like this. They discontinue things so often that I cannot say whether they're still available.

Is it possible to wash 100% Wool pants at home?

I wash all my wool, and I love wool. I have a lot. Jackets. Pants. Shirts. Sweaters. Blankets. I use baby shampoo. It's cheaper than woolite and other specialty soaps. Gentle on the natural oils. Low suds. I use a front loader washer on the hand wash cycle. cold water only. Lay flat...

    Vintage? Reebok High Top

You wouldn't be able to wear those old sneakers anyway, even if you could find them and would want to wear them. Time has not be kind to sneaker components. The rubbers and plastics discolor and dry rot. The soles would crack and fall off within a day or two. Sneaker collectors collect them...

    Eyeglasses frame "Trim tube"

I know there are some high end/vintage eyeglass shops in Los Angeles, and I would assume in New York, Paris, London, and Milan. Maybe even in Miami Beach. Anywhere where fashion is significant in the economy. I used to have a name for a Los Angeles shop, but I cannot find it in my bookmarks...

USAF N-3B parkas - Let's talk about them!!

This is one of my favorite threads on the board, but I have to admit a lot of the shorthand makes it difficult to follow. As a friendly request, when you folk start talking about a brand or model, could you type out the entire name and not abbreviate? Just the first, and maybe second, time you...

USAF N-3B parkas - Let's talk about them!!

I just want to be clear on this. It's DJ Manufacturing and not DJ Industries?

Pean to Lee denim and modern repros

I grew up in the Midwest USA. I'm oversimplifying here... Lee were for girls, farmers, and for people who couldn't afford Levis. The girls wore them because the pre-fade and lighter colored denim were more feminine and fashion conscious. The farmers wore them because they were very inexpensive...

Viberg service boot - colors don't match....

When I purchased my letter jacket in high school (what a waste of money that was), as my mother and I were paying for it, I immediately noticed one sleeve of leather was thick, stiff, and smooth like glass. The other sleeve was soft, supple, and already showing signs of creases, which is how I...

    Waterproofing an N1 jacket

I've used Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In Waterproofing and was satisfied with the results. It does have a smell though. There are other brands, like Gear Aid, that have similar products.

    The Collectors Dilemma

This is a tough one. I'd probably use the ones with the most wear. I never like to be the first one to mark something, and in the case of vintage, I purposely look for worn pieces. A little hole. Missing a button. Needing a cleaning. I appreciate the price usually being cheaper, but for a...

What was the last TV show you watched?

Hotel Portofino. PBS. I believe this is the standout new series of the year for me. I don't see anyone talking about it, so I'm either an island or it's a bona fide sleeper. Upstairs. Downstairs. A slimey underbelly. A cast of interesting characters. Beautifully shot. The hotel premise...
