Opinions Wanted on New Jacket Please

I've just had a look at this jacket on Ebay. The back on a 44" chest is 25", so should be a good length: maybe it's just the way it's photographed. $750 excl. postage, it seems.

Opinions Wanted on New Jacket Please

That's really nice work. I disagree with Jon Z about the rear pleats — they're very good — but I agree about having just one side strap, rather than two. I'd also prefer it without the D-pocket: will that be an option? The back looks a little long if intended for non-riding wear. I'd prefer...

I think Old Town take telephone orders. In my experience they're responsive and reliable.

Suit fabric source - 13-14 oz wools

Thanks. Good luck with the trews.

Suit fabric source - 13-14 oz wools

If that's a firm offer, BK, consider this a serious yes. I'm very interested in seeing the swatch book. May I suggest a central London meet at some point, if there are more than a couple of takers? CP

Input on Quality and Fit of Less Expensive A-2 Jackets

I think assumptions are often made on both 'sides' in the debate about what's considered to be a good fitting jacket. This comes up often in threads touching on high, tight armhole (here's one, just for reference, to illustrate what I mean and to broaden the discussion on fit even further.)...

    Historic Hillwalking

Wainwright is hip Apparently proper outdoor clothing is in demand. Naturally, it's only being used rus in urbe by 'adventurous' style 'discoverers', but you never know, I may yet meet other wool and canvas-clad souls on the hills before too long.

Making mens clothing: where are the vintage mens clothing patterns?

Yes, responding to many requests here and elsewhere, Evadress pulled out all the stops and made some great patterns available, including this great sports coat pattern. She's my hero.

    Austerity Suit

Victoria and Albert Museum, maybe? I can recommend the National Archives for a grand day out. (You could use the Hansard references to narrow down your search.) I'd be surprised if someone hadn't already written up some research on the relevant documentation. If you've access to a university...

    House sitter (tentatively) wanted

What a generous offer. If only it had been a month later, I'd have been right there: we'll be in the city in September, missing our own mostly well-behaved cats a little. I hope you have a good trip. :)

    Austerity Suit

A very useful find. I wonder whether the materials, rather than the design, were a factor in the categorisation of other utilty products. A minor point: the daily report of parliamentary proceedings is just called "Hansard", or the Official Report to give it its proper title.

    Outdoor Preparedness Overkill

As always, it's all about the context. It's silly and wasteful to suggest the same level of preparedness for a post-picnic amble and a remote bush adventure.

    Reproduction classic workwear

I'm guessing they've a relatively short inseam length because most of their customers will want to wear them low-slung.

    Short Sleeve French Cuffs?!?!

Actually, I don't think it's a bad idea - just one that shows his sense of humour and extreme individualism. Plain cuffs on short sleeves are considered acceptable and they feature on many conservative short-sleeved shirts. (Here's a UK one; and here's an Italian military one). Short...

Comments on my new Cooper type G-1?

The goatskin used to make the 80s Cooper jackets I've seen is really good quality.

Women and beer advertising of the Golden Era...

I think you might be flattering the ladies just a little bit to suggest they're helping sell beer to men. I mean, they're not hurting, but I think we'd probably drink the stuff anyhow... ;)

    Custom made vintage repros...

Interesting thread this. Most clothes makers will make garments in fabric you supply (often for the same price, but, you know). Has anyone asked whether the TopRunway will do this? The results might be better with proper fabrics.
