The quick, snappy dialogue between Holmes and Watson was fantastic, and I wish there was more of it. I really enjoyed the film. It is faithful enough to the spirit of the stories; though if I must pick nits, Mr. Downey's Sherlock has a bit too much Jack Sparrow thrown in for my taste. I'll...
It looks like I'll go with the cordovan color, as Ask Andy's color guide says it goes with everything except a black suit. No problem there. As for the stitching, I'm going to go without and see how that looks.
"Moving Voices", a double feature for which I was a lighting designer, just opened and plays Nov 5th through the 8th at the Barn theatre (UCSC, base of campus.) I now move on to a production of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Looks exciting.
I chose Magnoli primarily because, as I understand it, I can order a shoe that will fit my foot better. As I found out in my recent shoe buying experiences, my feet have rather odd proportions. They are a little tall compared to their length and width. My hope is that by taking the right...
Happy November, everybody.
As I'm tired of buying cheap shoes and then quickly destroying them, I've decided to order a pair of Magnoli's "Adventure Boots." However, I have not decided the exact specifications. I suppose the normal procedure would be to put my questions to Mr. Magnoli...
I do it friequently when it starts to get colder. I personally prefer a vest when I'm wearing a tie; it helps keep it in place and (I think) makes me a touch more dressed than others around.
Vintage hats, as nice and cheap as they are, can be a pain to find for those of us with large and funny shaped heads. Hopefully the MD1 will supply those who want vintage sensibilities but need modern sizing.
Personally, I think I see a space opening up for a grey fedora. Now if it had a...
I don't intend to derail this topic too much, but I didn't feel the question deserved it's own thread:
Does anyone know of a good shaving supply store near Santa Cruz, CA? I recently started using a Gillette safety razor inherited from my grandfather and I want to get a nice brush to go with...
Harmonica, clarinet, washboard, mandolin, and miscellaneous vocals and percussion.
It's rare that I wear a hat throughout the entirety of a performance, as it usually gets too hot and my head gets too sweaty.
On brims:
I have stretched a hat slightly and one side of the brim has developed a small wavy spot. Can that be ironed out with steam and a smooth object?
Maybe not entirely. The main character, though a total nutjob, is very well dressed. About an eighth of the movie is dedicated to tips on style and personal grooming, so it's possible she was trying to compliment your looks and could only think of Mr. American Psycho as a reference point.
Someone at a dining hall actually told me I reminded them of that character while wearing a dark grey fedora. I guess I should take it as a compliment.
