Ok my pics are working!
This is the blue gray Royal Stetson w/no liner. Possibly pre '50s to me. G976244 is on the orange tag and stamped on the sweat inside.
I like the ribbon. A bit fancier than a Playboy.
I can't believe I found this in a shop. It seems really old but is in great shape except for two tiny little bare spots in an OK spot on the brim's edge. It strikes me as a German long hair, made of hare I guess.
I thought my Stetson 25 OR was silver belly in the shop—but I realized it was light gray or dove gray, with no undertones of any other color, which I generally like to give some interest or added dimension. It just seems to make the overall color richer to me. I've sold small ones with feelings...
Purplesage, that old Stetson hommie is nuts...Wow.
I finally got to removing the ribbon to put a new one on this old Portis but to my surprise, the original and very fresh, black ribbon is perfectly preserved. I'd say it's 2" or just under.
Too bad I didn't get to wear the hat this summer...
The Royal Stetson I won came early yesterday. My email is not receiving my pics unfortunately. It is now the second best in condition of my '50s or older vintage hats. It is second only to my Stetson 25 OR, which is like new.
The Royal's blue gray felt is already proving to be a color I want to...
Yes Rick, the color/size/condition are qualities which compelled me to bid on (and win) the Royal Stetson. I'm elated to have won this Royal, even if it's not a Strat' or a Flagship, etc.
I think the ad and pics were poor overall which gave me a bit less competition in the auction. No science...
They love felt. What's even more sad is what some sellers think their moth eaten hats are still worth after critters have had their way with them (hats).
I complained about Goorin Bros. when we visited Denver and I didn't know this thread existed. I was all pumped to go to a real, old school hat shop but to my surprise, they don't sell felt hats anymore. All wool. I had been walking around the square and had seen so many broken down hats and then...
...and the ribbon being added later is a great observation. It was probably made to look more old fashioned. ....Ironic since the hat is old. I would maybe wear it if it had a nice navy blue ribbon or blue and white, etc. Brad's the authority and it's easy to see why.
Seems the easy flex comfort fit designation on the Portis boater's sweat is differing technology from felt "Swansback" Portis sweat. Anyway, Thanks for the weigh in.
