Does anyone listen to the radio any more?

The '40s on 4 or "Savoy Express " is one of the main reasons I subscribe to XM Stellite Radio. They play a good mix of 30s and 40s hit parade music from a large play list of over 1280 songs. With the big play list you not only get to hear the standard fair but you get a pretty good spread of the...

If you could spend one day/night in the Roaring 20's/Golden Era what would you do?

As far as Detroit goes I'd love to have seen The Michigan Theater back in its heyday. I have seen it several times in its modern, gutted, parking garage state which still somehow has an eerie beauty to it. I can only imagine how grand that place must have been back in the 20's and 30's. The...

If you could spend one day/night in the Roaring 20's/Golden Era what would you do?

I would head strength to 139 N. Wabash in Chicago and enjoy an evening of dinner an dance music at The Blackhawk Restaurant. In the late 20's the house band would have been Coon-Sanders and their Kansas City Nighthawks so it would be a great evening.;)

What are some of your favorite "electronics" of the golden era?

I would love to have a Crosley WLW Model Super-Power Radio Receiver. With its 37 tubes, six speakers, 75W of power, weight of 475 pounds, and a cabinet made of seven types of wood that stood 58" tall, 42" wide and 22" deep form me it would be the ultimate set to have sitting in the living room.:)

    What Games Amuse you

Being born and raised in Indiana, Euchre has always been in my blood. I can remember many an evening, as a kid, playing Euchre around my grandparent’s kitchen table. I’ve always loved Euchre but being from Indiana I don’t think I ever really had a choice.:p

    What Are You Reading

I just started reading A Stupendous Effort: The 87th Indiana in the War of the Rebellion. by Jack K. Overmyer. I'm not really a big Civil War buff and haven't really read much on the subject but being that my Great, Great Grandfather served in the 87th Indiana I was really interested in...

    Lost in the Neighborhood

The Dr. Cowan House There is a house near my neighborhood that will soon be gone and eventually I'm afraid forgotten. The house was originally built as the residence of a local physician. Until recently it was used as the offices for a car and truck lot. I'm not really sure why, but it is...

    What Are You Reading

I am currently reading "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34" by Bryan Burrough. It is one of the better books I have read on the subject in a long while, quite a page turner.

They Say Em' From the Golden Era - Slang & Memorable Phrases

Somewhere along the line I got in the habit of saying "Good to know ya" when I first meet someone. I'm not sure where I picked that up but I'm sure it was from an old movie or radio program.
