Trolley Strings -- When did they stop

They are still being manufactured. Borsalino and Scala both have a tendency to include the Wind Trolley cord and Button on select models. Akubra, occasionally.

    What else do you collect?

I fully intended to prepare an interesting post for this topic. However, after sitting here for about two minutes it dawned on me... I make no concerted effort to collect anything. All of my collecting habits occur in phases. If I may be said to collect anything it could possibly be finely...

    Do heads really shrink?

Yes, a reduction in hat size and headsize is common with weightloss. If you have heavily invested in hats it can definitely suck. I was solidly between a 58cm and 59cm when I weighed 299 lbs., but now that I am down to the 171 region (and still losing) I am dead on 58cm.

    Hats for a RELATIVE noob

The Scala branded hats are both yay and nay. Putting aside their wool hats (and various other lower grade materials) and concentrating on their fur felt hats (typically accompanied by lambskin sweatbands, etc.) I can say that their quality ranges from poor right up to pretty decent. I have not...

Sellers Guide for Dress Hats on Ebay

I think it would be terribly amusing if eBay sellers were required to provide sources for their claims. Then whenever you saw something like "Rare" there could be a link or footnote to a noted expert or journal or collectors book providing the proof that the item exists as "Rare" to someone or...

    Would you, if you could?

No thanks, I love the time I live in! But I earnestly love learning from and about the past. And while the earlier half of the preceding century was fascinating, I am still the most positively enamored by the Greeks and ancient times. Also, I love technology and science (with the exception...

    do you have many friends?

My true friends could be counted on one hand even if you subtract a finger or two. I don't really have many.

One detail seems overlooked in The Quest For The Perfect Safari Hat...

A similar effect is produced by a "turned" crown, in popular terminology.

Ear Flicking, Hat Manhandling, Hat Tips, Boy George, and Hat Crushing

    An important distinction, methinks!

Tragic dimensions to what we do?

Your musings are near to my heart. I am constantly buffeted by doubts concerning my desires and obsessions and the only realistic way to avoid them has been to kill the desire or curb the obsession. Which basically equates to not doing whatever it is that is causing me trouble. Can I do this...

Ear Flicking, Hat Manhandling, Hat Tips, Boy George, and Hat Crushing

This thread identifies several reasons why I avoid churches and spend my time doing worthwhile things around people who aren't drunk/insane/lonely/middle-aged women who can't respect personal space/loud truckers with no manners/etc. My list of annoying people applies just as easily to the...

    Should I defeather this Stetson??

:D If we all said that it is a bad idea and you took one cursory glance at our avatars and the "What hat are you wearing today?" threads you would see we were all hypocrites as almost none of us actually have a feather in our hats.:D Normally they will come right out. Some people like to...

    Felt hats in summer..

Welcome, welcome! Search around, this topic is beaten to death every few months and we all love sharing our thoughts and opinions (over and over and over again, either because hats never get boring or because we all love our own opinions just that much!). You'll have a lot of fun just going...

    Should I defeather this Stetson??

It is obvious that you wish to remove it. The fact that I have removed every feather from every fedora I have ever owned should not persuade you one way or the other! (Sarcasm) Also, the feathers are usually very easy to remove. Sometimes they feel snug but they will come right out (mostly)...

    New To The Hat Scene

Welcome, welcome! You came to the right place. Both of your questions (stretching & proper attire) are very common and popular topics and a little browsing will open a treasure trove of opinion regarding them both. Have fun looking around.

    Biltmore still around?

Why would it? Considering all the amazing luck they have had at their current location... Sad to say, but a change of scenery could do them a little good. You know how business is.

    Replacement Hat Liner

The plastic "tip" protectors (that's what Biltmore used to call them, anyway) are interesting. I like them and I leave them alone. When I see the accumulated head oils on the plastic from wear I feel more confident. And it is easy to clean off, while sweat stains in the satin lining are mostly...
