Good riddance to vintage things that have disappeared in your lifetime

The cassette tape was invented in 1962, which is in the scope of this forum. I just went off on one with the CDs and Mp3s...lol Camera film = I'm glad to not be dependent on it. As a hobby photographer I like that I can take instant pictures and not have an unknown party look at them. Not...

Good riddance to vintage things that have disappeared in your lifetime

We got parking meters in Philly. But if you know where to park on the back roads they can be avoided. I'd like to see those stupid toll buckets go away. No one carries 35 cents anymore. They are so 60s in design, too -- the only neat thing about them. Did some cleaning and I doubt this is...

    Hurricane Sandy

This is the extent of the damage in my neighbourhood. Some traffic lights are out, too. No one was injured in this incident.

I'm always freaked out when I meet someone born in 1993!! I graduated high school that year!! lol I met a wonderful bartender in England born in '93 and some of my husband's army mates were born that year. It still needs to register!!!! Other than slight improvement of feminine care...

    Hurricane Sandy

Wind's getting real whippy here. I just heard people outside yelling. lol Last August during the hurricane a bunch of people in this neighbourhood went outside and jumped around in it. Must've been them -- it sounded like fun yelling. lol

    Hurricane Sandy

Sitting here with my window wide open. I hear whipping wind, a crash now and again, and sirens in the distance. No idea what the crashes are -- kinda sounds like someone throwing something in the trash dumpster but no one is......

HAHA! There's a market in South Jersey that is stuck in a 1950s time warp and they still sell pickles like that!

Lots of improvement came in the 80s and 90s. I remember huge, thick pads, too. Hated them. The super-slenders that became more mainstream in the 90s were wonderful. I switched to internal protection in 2003 and never went back. Glad they are slim and silky, too :D I remember when they were...

lol I just don't think I would like an unsightly bulge at my waist. Seriously. My hatred of them is all vanity!!!!

    Hurricane Sandy

My work was cancelled. Wind and rain is whipping around, but nothing crazy yet. I took the dog for a walk and it was like a ghost town! Not a soul on the road. Keep seeing pictures on my FB of the Atlantic City area being underwater.

Feminine hygiene products. I know tampons came onto the market in the late 30s, but belts, rubber panties/aprons, big thick pads......no thanks. My mom said she was happy when such products began to improve.

    Guess What Year I Am!

Lily Powers = Ha! Well, those long tight skirts were in style until 1937 when the a-line came in. The frills and the film stock made me guess '35, too. The location was completely random ;) My last picture is from 1930. I love it. I love that they are all a little "sloppy" looking. Love...

    Hurricane Sandy

Philadelphia public transportation has been shut down. Nothing here yet but some rain and winds. Nothing crazy, though. My work has a delayed 9:30am opening tomorrow.

Earliest Recorded Voice from 1878 Discovered and Restored

Decasia is so pretentious, though!! I have a bit of pretentious-love in me, gotta admit. I prefer the cornball-ness of El Brendel, though ;) I'd like to hear that Carl broadcast if you can send it. I'll listen to it at work. If it's anything like the 50th Anniversary of the Phonograph I...

    Hurricane Sandy

Don't forget to FILL YOUR BATHTUBS if you have one! In case you lose power you can still flush the toilet!! Important, but often overlooked. I cursed our building by saying "we never lose power here" so now all my neighbours are convinced we will. So we've already planned a power-outage party.

Earliest Recorded Voice from 1878 Discovered and Restored

HAHAH!! Yes it would!! If it was *real* found recordings. Even done in a non-"horror" documentary style. The movie Decasia I find creepy. Look it up if you haven't seen it. It's all found, disintegrated film clips from the silent era spliced together against an out-of-tune orchestra (the...

Earliest Recorded Voice from 1878 Discovered and Restored

I listened to the 1859 recording while at work. That lessened the creepiness, too, I think. Being around other people in a lively environment. But all alone -- eh, NO. Maybe I'll listen to numbers stations at work tomorrow lol Horror Movies = *yawn*. But don't get me near an unknown 100+...

Earliest Recorded Voice from 1878 Discovered and Restored

I like to know things. I like facts. I think it might be not knowing is what freaks me out in some cases. Not all, though. For example, the Edison recording that this thread is about creeps me out, but I know all the information about it down to the date it was recorded. Same with Frank...
