    Here's how hooks work for those that haven't tried them before. You'll sometimes see shorter hooks offered and I would recommend against them. Within reason the longer the hook the greater your leverage and the more smoothly your foot will slide into the boot.

    I'm no expert but given the finish I'd wager it'll be darker soon enough. Right now it looks like a lighter colored tan w/ dark highlights. In a year I'd expect the dominant color to be roughly 1/2 way between the light and dark hues you see now and the highlights will be the lighter color...
