Ben over at RAF reenactors suggested that if they're really good they might fall prey to a reseller removing a second label and passing them off as originals. Maybe a good point but it may not be an issue as by the looks of it they'll probably cost more than a top shelf pair of originals...
RM Prototypes in production
Spoke with RM today, they are well into the production of the prototype but they are still sourcing correct sheepskin (weight, colour etc). They advised they've recently had an enquiry from someone else as well so if it's one of us there's no need to follow it up...
"What's happening? , What's so loud? someone sees the bandits? all the time to look around"
Sounds like a line from The BoB...
Tim, sorry I thought i'd told you. Yes, you do have some very compelling reasons there, but I have always thought that they ought to go the the NZFPM, or if not...
Hi David, you'll have to clear your PM box, it's full Mate. Anyhow, here's what I can offer. Sorry can't help with specifics about a date, but they are definitely a lightly used Wartime manufactured 1936 pattern boots. Anywhere up to 1945 I would say, probably later since they are so new...
Boots gone...
Sent 2 pairs to RMW today for assessment. Hope the news is good.
Here's some comparison shots. NOS brown Bedggoods size 6 and named RAF Air Ministry tagged size 12's. The two totally unrelated boots are surprisingly similar.
It's not easy to exactly compare due to the size...
I dropped a note to Lewis querying the use of it. Derek politely replied that he'd been sent the image by a friend and that he'd presumed it was a shot of a Northampton factory. He's since taken it down from the site.
WRT the RMW project, i've not sent the boots yet as I decided that I really...
What can you say when someone has a go- good on them I suppose, but I agree, they haven't captured that iconic shape, the seams look quite cheap and the fleece looks like polyester.
I certainly hope that Lewis has paid the Australian War Memorial for the rights to use that shot of the girl...
:offtopic: That's an absolutely beautiful MkI you have there Mr /|\, original wheel as well but i'll bet those seats aren't original. I'm in the market for a new seat of leather covers for my MkII, do you have any recommendations?
Actually fellas thanks for the offer but forget I mentioned it as it shouldn't be a problem. Whatever comes of it it'll be fascinating to get their response.
Tim, i've done my travel so now it's your turn for a holiday and there's a choice of watering holes where you can get sand between your...
Just receveived a quick reply from RMW. They are still prepared to look at this project, but it's their busiest time of year and won't be able to do much other than give an opinion until early in the New Year. Ill be sending a pair of boots to them to assess so anyone who's keen and can chip in...
I meant to add that at the same time I was speaking with RMW I had located and contacted the custodians of all remaining archives of Bedggood and Co. The records they hold are very scant and contain mainly a few journals, cash books and financial records, employeee material and some basic...
WB, I have seen those before as well, thanks for digging them out. I don't have any timeframe for possibly restarting the RM boot investigation but i'll get onto it as soon as I can manage.
In case you're interested, here's some shots I took 3 months ago of the original Bedggood Boot factory...
Great looking jacket Andrey, i'm surprised that it's in such good condition after all those Russian Winters! I would have thought that it'd had a lot of use over the years. Has it spent all this time in your family and was it just stored and not used?
It probably dates from mid War, '41-43...
Funny thing is I came across those emails in my inbox by accident today. They were from Feb last year so it's a while ago now. This is what they told me then;
"I have spoken with our Boot Factory manager and he thinks it may be possible that we can make these. He needs and physical example...
Hate to be a snitch but I thought it was a no-no to link to live auctions here. And...unless you're the seller, why advertise it and spoil it for anyone who's mangaed to find it themselves (btw I wasn't bidding as I already have two pairs;)).
You need to contact Steve Silburn who owns sefton clothing. He's the only maker of repro Type B's, but they are almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Send Soren (Spitfire) a pm, he bought one last year.
