Just a point of order but since this is a specific Panama thread, can we stick with the two Ps - Panama and Paja. The word, straw is much too generic for afficionados. 8-)
Love the Kentucky Rancher. If you ever run across an Akubra Boss of the Plaines in size 59 let me know. So many Akubras out of production that I let get away.
Watching "The Fighting 69th" on TCM. Oh boy! Plenty of campaign hat action in this one, and my man Jimmy Cagney . The hats were given out to new recruits open crown. Hat geek paradise seeing how all the 4 dents turned out.
Paja should last indefinitely if it's well cared for and it gets enough water although normal wear and tear takes it's toll. I would think a risk assessment would be in order before reblocking a hat.
In the process of getting this one descented. I'm hypersensitive to artifical fragrance and this one is delicately full of something. The liner was expertly and very longly like a spider basted in. I need to get photos before I remove the liner.
On further review it looks like the rusty ribbon highlights and the edge binding highlights match which would suggest aftermarket artisanship. And that concave ribbon? Total artisan aftermarket job.
Ok, I'll play . . .
Royal Stetson. Hmmm. Doesn't look like a '50s sweatband to me.
What's under the sweatband? How is it sewn in? How is the liner attached?
