    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

That’s what I would have guessed and I would do the same.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I thought you would probably agree with me - although it’s a difficult choice. Fortunately we don’t have to make it in real life. I wonder what other chaps will opt for.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

For those of us who have more than one Woolly Pully in different colours (e.g. Army olive; Navy Blue and Air Force Blue): if you could keep only one of them, which would it be? This is a difficult question for me as I have the whole colour range of them. However, although I probably wear the...

Yes, WP weather has come. I have worn RAF Blue and Navy so far. …

Is it wrong to stay in a hotel when I visit my elderly parents?

Thank you very much for that. To be brutally honest, I didn’t feel very ‘blessed’ on my last visit because communication was so bad and my mother has become so verbally aggressive. I would like to feel blessed again, of course, and genuinely wish to help. I think the distance of a hotel would...

Is it wrong to stay in a hotel when I visit my elderly parents?

This is a question I am discussing with my partner, my friends and now my online community at FL. I have recently returned to London from a visit to my parents, aged 91 (father) and 87 (mother), who live in a cathedral city in central Southern England. I am a 56 year old man: my partner is a...

I can hardly wait for the return of WP weather. Summer is a rehearsal for Hell.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

These are all the same WP. The effect of the light on the middle image makes it look like the standard Army version, which is described as olive green but is almost bordering on khaki. Earlier versions including the first one I had back in the 70s (at the tender age of 11) were more khaki in...

New Peat Brown WP for my collection. Too hot to wear now but look forward to Fall.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I always do my best. … I hope I didn’t offend any of the American chaps as they can be a bit more puritanical. … Mind you, they gave us the flatulent cowboy scene in ‘Blazing Saddles’, which is now a classic.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

That is a great story my friend: the heroic absurdity of everyday life. It is hilarious in a way, despite being so painful, and I get the impression that you do see the comical side of it? I’m sorry you’ve been “hors de combat” for several months, but now that you are better it is time to get...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Outdoor Knitwear had a 10% discount over the weekend and I used it to buy a new Peat Brown WP to replace the old and threadbare one I have had for many years. Several years back, I was wearing the Peat Brown version and a chap I work with asked me about it. I told him a tall story: they are...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Re. Mary Shelley: it was ironic, given that the Shelleys had views on marriage and the family that were considered radical in their day and probably would today still be seen as avant garde in large areas of Texas or Oklahoma.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Are you describing an aspect of native Hawaiian culture here? I have found with the generality of Americans that they are often fairly formal and polite, contrary to the stereotype, and certainly more so than most white ‘Brits’ today (British people of Black or Asian heritage often have an...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I remember as a schoolboy seeing an old (1930s?) Hollywood adaptation of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’. It was described in impeccable but anachronistic American English as ‘Based on the Book by Mrs Percy B. Shelley’.

I agree. I loathe this false informality. I would add to it that I do not want to be on first name terms with my lawyer, doctor, accountant, dentist, or any other professional with whom I have a friendly but formal relationship rather than an actual friendship.

Taking two days off (I’m self-employed) and will enjoy reading and listening to music. And drinking (water of course).
