    Lower Cost Shoes

A high price tag does not necessarily mean high quality or durability. Sneakers aren't really built to be durable regardless, they're built for comfort. So its kinda like buying a sweatshirt expecting it to be as rugged as a horse hide jacket. From what I understand most sneakers, regardless of...

    Lower Cost Shoes

We have gotten so used to ultra cheap clothing made overseas that we forget that clothing wasn't always this cheap. People back then made less money and got by. They got by buying less but spending more where it counts. The average household back then often spent over 10% of their income on...

    Panama hat weaving issue

Every hand woven panama hat I have seen had those pinholes. Mine certainly do. I believe they are left by pins which fix the hat body in place while is it made. In any case it is not a defect, so dont loose any sleep over it.

FS: Aero Premier Highwayman Russet Vicenza size 42

Its a lovely jacket in a great colour. The lining is fun too. If you were in Europe I might have picked this one up.

That sentence feels wrong on so many levels.

    Knockoffs?

No problem at all. Then lets leave it at this.

    Knockoffs?

That is a very complex topic, and one which has been debated for millennia. I believe it deserves a good answer, but it will be my answer. Again, I do not disagree with what you wrote. The idea that one first has to suffer or work hard to be happy is something told to us by our parents & the...

    Knockoffs?

I wont disagree with you. I dont believe that the desire for a good life & good things are a problem. To desire without need. One might call that "expression motivated thinking", which is a hallmark of all post scarcity civilizations. In more advanced cultures, the motivation for technological...

    Knockoffs?

This is my view, I do not claim it is indisputable fact. In order to understand "fakes" we have to look at the underlying causes: The "problem" are not the "fakes", but the people buying them to impress others. In my mind that’s the issue. Why are we buying or doing something to impress others...

Leather Jacket makers in the EU

I just couldn't get the Strizzi by Whitefeather out of my head, so Ive contacted them and asked to send me a sample piece of their russet Goatskin they use for this jacket. It looks good in the pictures & the colour is exactly what I wanted. Ive read good things about Goatskin. They said its...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

That makes sense. Tho Id imagine that with modern plastics this could be done today with no downsides. I will have a new sweatband installed on one of my Montecristis soon, I think I will request something like this to be done.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

This is the first time Ive seen cellophane being installed under the sweatband. Ive heard about it but never seen it. Very interesting. Thanks.

    Post New Hats Here!

Yes. It doesn't look as "dusty" in person as it does in the pictures. That being said I'm curious as to the origin of the "counter-clockwise rule". Would this not depend on what direction the hat body was sanded in from the factory? Have all haters unanimously decided to sand their hat bodies...

    Post New Hats Here!

Dobbs Twenty. Probably late 50s/early 60s. This is how I got it, after only a bit of dusting with some tape: This is it after some steam to fix the wonky brim & pinches. I feel it still has a lot of character without looking "shabby". There are some very subtle stains, but I think its part...

Need some feedback on wearing fedoras

I believe Ive written on this forum before: "You're damned if you do and damned if you don't." Other people will think what they want anyway, so you might aswell just do what you want to start with. So my own position is quite clear. But considering the OP is self conscious enough to ask this...

Need some feedback on wearing fedoras

I could just say: "dont care what others think"; and while that would be ideal, it doesn't help you much, because you do care. So for now, just accept it and move on. The goal is not to look "good" to others, but to start looking "good" to yourself. What I suggest is to start with a slightly...

What hat are you waiting for today?

Ill post a picture once its done for sure. I just love the look of contrasting light coloured bands on darker hats. My favourite hat I own also sports a golden/beige band with medium brown felt. Its like you said, there are already so many brown fedoras with matching brown bands. As is its...
