    Akubra Campdraft

The Campdraft is going to have a wider brim than the hat Heston is wearing in that picture. His brim looks to be either a 2 1/2 or a 2 5/8 as compared to the Campdraft's 2 3/4 brim. Not sure what the open crown height is on his hat. Could be either a 5 1/2 or even 6 inches. In any event, yes...

Y You're very welcome buddy. I believe you'll find the Campdraft to be a good choice for its versatility. Whether Campdraft or Fed IV, or any other style, my experience with Akubra is that they make a solid hat that should you last many years. *last you*

Anyway, just to show how versatile thin ribbons can be, (goes well with either dress wear or casual wear), this is Robert Ryan sporting a thin ribbon with casual wear in the movie "Bad Day at Black Rock". Robert Ryan stood 6'4 and the profile of this thin ribbon suits his overall features well...

Just a guess, but possibly a 2 3/4. Mike Mazurki was a big guy. He stood 6'5.

Looking for info on this vintage Resistol hat

I'm guessing maybe late '50s-early '60s with the red sewn in liner and the look of the manufacturer's tag. I've worked on a gang of Resistols and other Byer / Rolnick hats, but still am no expert on dating them. Just a guess. Hopefully someone will chime in who has more expertise.

Mine's the same way, only she asks, "It's not an old black and white movie, is it"?

Definitely agreed, watching old movies. I especially like the classic fedoras you see in film noir from the 1940s - early 1950s. Murder My Sweet with Dick Powell had a nice collection of classic fedoras. Out of the Past with Robert Mitchum was another good one. Glenn Ford and Alan Ladd also...

From your description and your casual dress style I believe a thin ribbon like a Campdraft from Akubra would suit you well. Thin ribbons are pretty versatile and go well with either casual or dress wear. It has dimensions somewhat close to what you're looking for. It's an open crown fedora that...

    Movie hats

Yes they sure did. I've seen a lot of them appearing on The Twilight Zone too! In her younger days Miss Kitty, (Amanda Blake), was a good looker.

I'd like to try out one of his blocks. It would be a cheaper $$$ alternative to the wooden ones if you're on a budget.

That same '55 from American Graffiti was also in an earlier movie, "Two Lane Blacktop". I remember going to the drive-in with my girlfriend, (now my wife), and watching that movie way back in the early '70s. Warren Oates was also in that movie and drove a nice yellow '70 GTO.

Can anyone guess this "Gunsmoke" guest star who went on to don an iconic hat in several classic action movies?
