https://flashbackdallas.com/2014/03/14/olsen-stelzer-1939/ This website has some cool advertising like this one and a newspaper profile on Imogene Cartlidge who was a sales person for OS (the article says the first woman boot salesperson) and the mother of the TL National Sales Manager who...

Their website is down, I thought I remembered that one of the original families was still involved but just found a newspaper article https://www.timesrecordnews.com/story/news/local/2018/08/20/investment-group-acquires-118-year-old-boot-company-olsen-stelzer/1036884002/ that says O S was...

Toppies are eponymous name for thin rubber subsoles that people glue or have glued to leather soles, usually on expensive shoes to protect the original sole. In this case the previous owner said he put them on so the leather soles oh his boots would be more stable on rain slick streets and...

Thanks, if you can post a couple more without too much effort, I would much appreciate it. The Hippos got my attention because they are Black Jack, I have a pair that are plain but really comfortable and appear to be well built.

You're right Greg, the offices and, I believe, the manufacturing facility are now in Wichita Falls and they have a store in Ft. Worth. They have completely moved out of Henrietta as far as I can find out. I know one of the older Callahan brothers who have been selling tack, boots and feed here...

This stamp from Stewart’s Boot and Saddle I didn’t include in the last post. I have been tempted by a pair of Black Jack Hippos but the pics aren’t very clear and In some of the pics they just look ugly. Does anyone have any input on the beauty or lack thereof of hippo skin?

Olsen-Stelzer I got on the bay last week. These were listed as 13B but no size markings anywhere. Don’t appear to be custom since they were sold at Stewart’s Boot and Saddle in Rusk, TX. The previous owner put the Toppies on because he lives in Seattle. Really comfortable, maybe after all these...

Those are good looking boots, glad none of them even come close to my size. The sole construction does seem to be the same as my much later ones so your hypothesis about the carry over from LA days seems to be correct Greg. I may start to appreciate it now.

All that said, I’ll probably keep them because they’re comfortable and the 13B fits my just a little long to be a 12d foot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Stewarts that were listed as being from ‘77 but really just a logo copyrighted in 77. Probably from within the last 10 years. No creases on the vamp and they suched up conditioner like they had never had anything applied to the leather. Still decent boots for what I paid, not great but wearable...
