Hats and Drinks - A Match Made in Heaven

A quick trip to the South of Wakayama to celebrate midsummer Christmas properly. I wore my Panama for the most part. The hotel we’re staying at has an open bar in the afternoon (read free drinks) with beer and wine. Needless to say, we enjoyed it. It has a second round in the evening with...

Hats and Drinks - A Match Made in Heaven

No hat pic, but I was in the Sunbody again. We cracked open the Yamazaki today. Pleasant enough. Flowery, honey-like sweetness. We got this in a whisky lottery for ¥6000, well under the full price. Not really my style. I certainly wouldn’t pay over ¥10,000, a similar price to Lagavulin 16...

Thanks, guys. I think that I’ll pass it up.

Thanks, Greg. Wouldn’t the wire make the brim more obedient, and therefore the reshaping easier? Or (now I think about it) is it difficult to remove the kinks?

This 10X Stetson Shantung showed up on the local auction site. The big brim appeals for a summer barbecue hat. However, I’ve never done reshaping with a straw hat? How much of a challenge would it be to get this into shape? As a barbecue hat, the stains are less of an issue, but any advice on...

Shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Martyn Phillips, lead Singer of the Chills. The sounds of my youth…and beyond.

Up over 36C here today, so I went for one of my wider brimmed straws, my Sunbody. I really need more big brimmed straws.

Hats and Drinks - A Match Made in Heaven

Celebrating midsummer Christmas over here in Japan…not Japan, this is a purely Shoe household tradition. We started with Minoh Beer, an excellent Stout for me and a Pilsner for Etsuko. The presents? Arran Sherry Cask and Arran Quarter Cask for Etsuko. Balvenie DoubleWood and (my favourite)...

Don’t forget Etta. I always thought she was at her best singing full-on blues.

I just got a second hand Schott 641. I’m very happy with it overall, but the lining seems to have stretched a little and is visible hanging (just a little) out of one of the sleeves. I’m thinking about pulling it up a little from around the shoulder area and stitching a small fold in the...

    Post New Hats Here!

That’s a great colour. The Americans on here will correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall that although they call the vegetable an eggplant, the colour is still called aubergine. I’ve been living in Japan, where American English rules supreme for so long now that the words “eggplant“ and...

Sparkling wine with nashi pear while grilling under my Cattleman. A beautiful oaky, buttery Chardonnay while devouring.

Sunbody for shopping, but neglected to get a picture. Later it was wings on the grill under my barbecue hat, the Akubra Cattleman. Too hot for outdoor cooking, but I couldn’t help myself. The chook was pretty darn good, though.

    Akubra Overload

Nope. It’s still there. I couldn’t see it at first, but when I did a search it came up in both the regular and deluxe. Only in Moonstone size 59 & 60 for the deluxe and size 56 tawny fawn for the regular, though. https://hatsdirect.com/search?q=federation+&search=

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

I just bought my second Schott. I now have a cross zip with a cafe racer on the way. No plans for a third quality leather jacket, but I might just save up for a Rainbow Country. The leather just looks so stunningly good.
