Oh I didn’t realise they have an actual brick and mortar shop in Brighton! It’s been a minute but I usually make it out there every other year or so. Will definitely check it out when I go next. Again, their brogue boots look quite nice for the price point. Ideally I’d like some Trickers, but...
This is interesting to note. I didn’t realise there was so much variation even within that style name. Like the pair I’ve got right now is pretty hardwearing and solid, but I know I’ve had others in the past that were heavier and still had that same 13mwz label.
Interesting about the cotton...
Here’s the pair I have. They’re definitely a bit lighter in colour now than they were when they were new, but they’re one of about 4 pairs of jeans that I currently own so I wear and wash them often. A bit of fading and marks from phone, pliers etc. and a little fraying at the cuffs but honestly...
I’ve been curious to try Modshoes but haven’t bought anything from them yet. They do some nice looking brogue boots though. Leather soles too. How do you find they wear? Their prices often look too good to be true.
I’ve got a pair bought new just a few yrs ago (can’t remember exactly but probably 2022). Cut and fit is pretty much spot on to the older ones, as far as durability, not quite as heavy and hardwearing as the old Wranglers but more so than the current Levi’s.
Straws a bit trickier to flatten out without it going floppy (if you’re converting the hat in the picture) but it can be done. I think @RickP has some excellent tips on keeping straw brims straight if you decide to go that route. Look through his posts on the “What hat are you wearing today”...
Unless you want to go full on custom with the budget that brings I highly recommend an open crown resistol. You’ll be able to achieve that look quite easily with a little steam and reference videos/pictures
With some warmer, sunny weather the past week or so, I’ve temporarily traded the Stratoliner out for this Open Road style straw. What hat is it? I have no idea. Some kind of Frankenstein bootleg something. Bought it online a few yrs ago advertised as a Resistol but it arrived with both resistol...
If you’re wanting it western weight resistol sells quite a few of their hats as open crown, flat brims meant to be shaped. There’s good resources here on shaping the crown and trimming down brims but also if you live near a decent hat store they’ll be able to give you any shape you want.
Also...
Trickers country brogues are also on my future wishlist. Best I’ve got right now is a pair of Loake Royals. They look nice and are surprisingly a very comfortable fit but I know they’re not gonna last forever as they’re starting to get a crease in the toe box even with cedar shoe trees
