A promptly left the group after confronting this exact practice. Since we overlapped on sizes, I felt compelled to understand why those listing aren’t shared and how that’s fair compared to other listings shared. His response was, my group my rules. Nuff said, but I certainly think the level of handsomeness dropped a bit from being ‘deadly’… oops!

Aw man, what a disappointment to find out that's who y'all are talking bout. I always enjoyed reading his perspectives on things in all the old threads I've perused and didn't know he left here with bad blood.

I’m not entirely sure where and when the bad blood happened. But there were several questionable and contradictory behaviors.

Two of which I never understood, were messaging sellers on eBay, Etsy etc. to educate them on their listings and how they should update the items description and price accordingly. This was done regularly.

The second was buying any hat that might be able to be flipped for a profit, regardless of size, and then also complain about having too many hats. But would also continue to buy. I personally miss seeing the photos of his hats, the written content not so much.

I had a few contentious words with him and he was called on the hat flipping more than once but nothing seemed to bother him and the majority stayed out of it. I don’t t remember anything dramatic happening before he left, he just stopped. Not long afterwards someone mentioned his FB page.

I'll cop to lighting in to him at one point for the flipping, but it wasn't just that which bugged me. It was that seemed to be his primary purpose here. He rarely posted in any other threads, just posts advertising his recent purchases and that they were for sale.

Nothing about history or culture or even goofy pics. Just "I hoovered up this hat on the open market (which doesn’t fit me) and I'm selling it for a profit."

One of the few times I've lost it on here.

I have run across a few of these (usually in antique shops or flea markets) and I often feel obligated when they are cheap, to re-home them to my home. And it really P i s s e s me off........(that they don't fit me...:() and I seem to rarely move them on under any circumstances........I need to work more on that end of things.;)

I guess I could kind of wear them all........even a small hat can fit sometimes!

Well, I joined the Facebook page just to see what was up, and all I can say after a short perusal is... gross. I mean, maybe none of the actual deals are getting posted so those of us willing to do the leg work and try to find things on our own will still have a chance, but I was already feeling like that was pretty hard with the sellers I see out there hoovering things up and reselling them for many multiples what they paid (Our favorite grandad, Davenbre, Shadow Self), or even just the hat addicts that just can't resist another hit of dopamine of a deal in their size (which I definitely can be guilty of at times).

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with buying things and reselling them, but most of the hats I've picked up for resale are ones that need some cleaning or other sort of work to be wearable again, so I feel like I'm providing a service if someone buys them. Of course, I have to get around to actually finishing cleaning and posting the things I've bought so my wife stops being grouchy with me for storing them in our bedroom.

And I guess I have to admit that if you're not searching for a deal, but are on the hunt for hats of a particular quality, not having to sift through all the BS that's posted on eBay/Hibid/Goodwill/LiveAuctioneer/Etsy/etc and having a feed of hats we'd all be interested in has some value. It just still feels wrong though. I'm inclined to agree with Anthony that part of the joy is finding something yourself and knowing its worth.

Anyway, yeah, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. =(

As penance for helping derail the discussion, here's a 3X that I don't think I've posted before. Mid 50s, sweatband is flaking at the top but hopefully will hang on for a bit. It's heavier felt than the other 3X Open Road I have from the same era, but it's a nice hat.

Great looking hat, much darker color than I am used to seeing in these vintage OR's!

I don’t believe I’ve documented this one before. I’ve had this one for a few years but it’s been neglected. I think I’ve always overlooked this one because it’s a 60s model and I tend to reach for my 50s models first. This is a fine hat in its own right! That could very well be late 50s
Splitting hairs really... same hats.
From what I can tell those size tags with the number and fraction showed up around 59... possibly even 58.
Beautiful Royal D my friend

I’m good with that assessment! Thank you for the comments, Anthony! Now, if I can just score myself a One Hunnerd!!!
