Thanks, Jeff. That is some fascinating information and reserch, and some marvelous hats! Have yet to read it all, but enjoyed the first several pages.

Alanfgag’s 2017 post of his Vimenet at 2.4 oz/68 grams sent me to my kitchen scale to weigh a Montecristi: 76 grams. (I am several sizes larger, but still.)

A surprise catch, a 1930's Vimenet for under $30. A steal. These do not come along very often.

More like just under $50 ($35 plus shipping and tax) but still a good get!

Man you're fast, was only up for 26 minutes. I thought I lucked out with the seller's 2x beaver portis thin ribbon that had only been up for 42 minutes after I just happened to search for Portis in between sets at the gym, but that was the one to get lol.

If you feel like it's too big for you when you get it, lemme know!

Shipping and tax is the cost of doing business. If you're selling a Vimenet for $35, I want everyone to know.

My first Vimenet (from a member here) was a 7 3/8. I make that work (and it was one of the hats that came across the ocean with me, along with my 2nd). I'm sure the 7 1/4 will be just fine and I'll be glad to have one with me in the States, but I'll keep you in mind. :)

Miller Fine Hats, Denver CO, 4X Quality. I suspect this is a 1930's or so hat, and I do believe these were at least made in the 30's, based on a previous purchase of a similar one, when the seller said his father or grandfather had owned it when young, before going in the military in the early part of WW2, not long after getting out of high school. I think this is an Arminto model hat, looking at the 1935 Miller catalog.

About 1950's either a Dobbs or Knox Beaver Twenty longhair fedora with 3 1/4 inch bound brim. It was worked on by Personality Hats, who put their own replacement liner, sweatband and mfg tag in the hat. I believe it still has the trademark 50's Dobbs and Knox size tag. The words "Beaver Twenty" are stamped on the sweatband. This is the first Beaver longhair I've personally come across.
Turns out I don't know who made this hat. What I thought was a Dobbs or Knox size tag is just a tag that only slightly resembles one of those, so this is a mystery hat, unless Personality Hats made it.

My first "real" Knox Fifteen including hatbox. I already have one with a stingy brim of 4cm from a later area. I think this one is from the '40's/'50's area. I hope it will fits me!! I traded this one with a nice homburg from Johnson & Co, which was a bit too large for me. Pictures from the seller/trader.

Mossant Castor Hudson 3-star Homberg, Castor meaning Beaver. I stumbled across this about 3 AM this morning on eBay. It shows signs of wear on inside and may need cleaning and repair, but I couldn't resist. Don't know the age until I can see the mfg tag, but it dates on back a ways. I figured the hatbox alone was worth half or more of the seller's price.
The seller seemed to think the literature with the hatbox gives a 1920's date, but I'd be surprised if the hat is that old, and I'm not even absolutely sure the box originated with the hat, but he said he bought them together.

This post of mine is incorrect and I'd delete it if possible. I was right to begin with. The size tag IS like those in Knox hats of the 50's, and perhaps a few Dobbs hats.

Stetson Nutria longhair hat, with 3 1/2 inch brim and open crown is 6 3/4 to 7 inches.
I suspect this was an older hat, probably pre-WW2 I'd say, that was rebuilt at the Stetson factory in 1954, per the cancelled stamps on the box. The hat owner's children just said it was sent to be reblocked, but I don't believe that's the only thing done. I believe Stetson put a Nutria Quality sweatband and liner in it, but I'm not sure if that is the actual quality of the hat. Does anyone have or recall seeing any Real Nutria or Clear Nutria hats from the 1950's or 60's? Because I'm not sure Stetson still had any sweatbands or liners for those qualities.
PS...The family said this was already an "old" hat when it was sent to Stetson in 1954.

I was a little worried about this one... First time I've bought something at auction and didn't get an invoice/settlement, although my card was charged. Called several times, only managed to speak to someone once and never got an invoice or shipping update. I don't mind being patient, especially with small auction houses, but I like a paper trail ya know? It was starting to feel like a s c a m (edit: why is that word censored!?!?! Lol), although it seems weird that someone would go through the trouble of running an auction just to s c a m people, but you never know.

Finally got a response from the person in charge of shipping and got a sob story about her husband suddenly dying and having to put her mom in hospice. Which obviously is a lot for anyone to deal with. Although a Google search showed her husband died in March, so maybe not really recent. And kinda leans into the "this feels off and I'm not sure whether it's a s c a m or just people that are not very efficient with their business and have some life things going on."

Almost reached out to some of y'all that I know have more experience buying things at auction than I do for advice.

Anyway, it shipped yesterday. Should be here next week. I'm guessing a late 40s/early 50s Stratoliner in my size for the princely sum of $31 plus shipping, which is why I was so excited/nervous I'd been had. Looks to be in decent condition although the photos leave a lot to be desired. Guess I'll find out soon!

Glad it shipped. I've sweated a few of those too, but that's a great deal.
