LBJ Ranch Sitting Room, Sept 1965
Rare one, Bob.
It doesn’t look like many divots are on the bottom brim side. It might be worth turning it inside out.Wish it fit and had never met the moth family.
Nice BOP clone! What is the Old West Roundtable? Is it a club or society where you do reenactments and such, or something different! As a Gen X’er (‘71), I feel like I grew up in the last generation that admired Westerns and the whole Western culture. I was one those kids who always wanted to be a cowboy, lol. Stuff like that is interesting to me. I live in Alabama and it is definitely an agricultural state with lots of farms/farmers but light on real Western culture with true horse and cattle ranches. They exist, but few and far between.Attended this months Old West Roundtable breakfast meeting under a BOP clone.

Thank you! It’s an RJT. The dimensions are spot on, & I’ll get around to a more correct ribbon sometime. I gave up trying to find an original BOP in my size. I enjoy wearing it.Nice BOP clone! Very interesting! Thanks for that info. We have Civil War enthusiast type groups here in the Heart of Dixie but I’ve never been involved. I’d like to learn more about the Westward expansion. I saw Part 1 of Kevin Costner’s Horizon saga, which follows multiple storylines of the early expansion days and I thought it was great. I guess the box office movie goers didn’t fully understand that the project was intended to be a multi-part series to be released one after the other at the box office, and the whole thing flopped. Perhaps Costner was too ambitious in trying to sell it at movie theaters and should have made a deal with one of the streaming services instead. Now it’s dead and we’ll never to get to see it in it’s entirety.Thank you! It’s an RJT. The dimensions are spot on, & I’ll get around to a more correct ribbon sometime. Roundtables are more about true historical research & mostly local driven. Nearby there are three Civil War Roundtables. I belong to one & attend another when they have interesting programs. For several yrs our Roundtable was associated with a speakers bureau that we used to educate the public. We have artifacts the Roundtable owns on display in a local museum. The Old West Roundtable is an offshoot, just post Civil War during the settling of the American West. There are local chapters here of national organizations but some of those have closed since the Covid pandemic & lockdown. There was always a lot of osmosis of individuals among the various groups as we’re all interested in the same things. But we’re all getting older & younger people aren’t too interested.
There was a horse ranch within a mile of where I live (The Tall Pony) that sold a couple yrs ago to a religious group from IA. They were supposed to use it as some kind of religious retreat but I don’t know if they ever did or not. It came up for sale again this summer & was purchased by a developer who intends to built a subdivision. He has been hauling in rock & crushed concrete, intends to set up a batch plant to make his own cement for the streets & infrastructure.lots of farms/farmers but light on real Western culture with true horse and cattle ranches.
At a time when most crops were still traded on the barter system, for my family it was about cheap land with good soil, & the 2-3 cash crops of the day. I was the 6th generation to be born & raised there.I’d like to learn more about the Westward expansion.
Glad to know that there are still folks like you, who are interested in the REAL history of the Western Frontier.Very interesting! Thanks for that info. Jesse, I think this particular Miller 4X Montana of yours is from the late 1930's or thereabouts, which seems to be when they first produced these, best I can tell from the catalogs. And at that time the price was only $5. You're showing a later ad, when the price had increased. I'm judging the date of your hat based on that sweatband and the Miller logo inside the hat crown.Howdy! Been a bit absent on TFL but slowly making my way back on. Couldn't pass up posting this recent find for you all to see. 4x Miller "Montanan". Hope everyone is doing well!

I would say the brim influence came more from the Coke /Bowler/Derby influence as they had been around over here since around the 1860.....the Homburg came almost 40 years later.I was curious because I've been wondering if there are some western styles that share some DNA with homburgs.... They have a similar vibe to me with the curls. It makes me curious what a homburg with a thin ribbon might look like.
