A 95gr, 100% beaver felt from FEPSA off to the UK. Matching mid brown vintage ribbon on crown and brim. These 95gr FEPSA felts are the closest to a vintage feel I can find in a modern felt. A classic fedora

Penney's Marathon 3x X quality came in. I was thrilled to find one here in the netherlands. No lining, no hatbow (sparebow), no label. Is it a good hat? Yes it is! Great color also. Am i impressed? No, totally not, i have much better hats. Am i gonna wear it? Yes sure, after steaming, nothing wrong with this one. If anyone can date this hat, please let ne know......

Edit: steamed it a bit and changed the crown a bit more to my liking. Centerdent and wider pinch.

The “Shady Oak” greatly popularized the style in the south and west US.
Then the “Open Road” by Stetson brought the style global and all of the hat manufacturers followed suit.
Pilgrim was a Sears brand from 1905 until around 1964.
The Frank H. Lee hat Co. would private label hats for Sears under the Pilgrim brand name.
This is a 1950s Pilgrim in the popular at the time “Open Road” or “Shady Oak” style.
"Formease" trademarked in 1952

Hey Anthony — good to see you back!

I thought “Formease” was a Byer-Rolnick trademark.

I guess it was...
Everything I saw had it trademarked in 52
I stand corrected.
So you think Resistol made this hat ?
Or possibly a shared innovation on a cross utilized patent.
I know that happened a bit.
Confusing.
I don’t think Resistol made hats for Sears… but stranger things have happened

Echter Tamino, "Special - Marke Tamino Feinste - Qualität -", Wool, 57 cm, possibly mid to late 1930s. This Wool Soft Felt has the yet to be solved mystery "Arbeits - No: Controll - No: Lohn - No:" and "Qual. Form Farbe Garnitur" Stamps. I assume "Tamino" is based on the hero tenor in Mozart's 1791 opera The Magic Flute. Unfortunately after much searching I wasn't able to find the company that had this trademark. I like finding these older Wool Soft Felt Hats.

Don’t know if they did work for Sears or not. But I’m pretty sure Garland did do some private label store brand hats. I believe I have a “3 Beall Bros” that appeared to be made by Resistol. Maybe it’s possible Sears stores could have had some regional purchasing…. Or they could have used Garland for their western lines at some point. Just speculating.

Very possible.
I'm intrigued
I shouldn't just assume it was made by Lee.

I did find something about how Lee shared a cross utilized patent with Byer/Rolnick but I don't know what to believe anymore.

Glory in the heights!!

My wife left today before the mail came, and I got home in time to get my two new hats unboxed and photographed. Today was a good day. :)

I’m currently wearing one of them, so she’ll see it soon. But as I’ve mentioned, it’s the box that tends to trigger an unfortunate response lol.

I ordered this hat from Mr. Black because I wanted a more durable, less precious summer hat in an interesting shape. I had previously bought one of his “Safari Edition” hats on eBay so I could see one for myself, but it’s in a size I can’t wear. That one may end up belonging to my wife, or I may pass it along to another BBB fan. Time will tell.

For this one, I wanted the widest possible brim. It’s supposed to be a sun hat, after all, so what better time to push my preconceived limits?

I also like to get something a little unusual when I order a custom hat—something less likely to turn up on the secondary market. It makes me feel a little better about spending the money.

Cool find, Steve. Seems to be in good shape as well for a survivor like that.

This one showed up yesterday. And it's an intriguing one.
Brückel's velours fedora in black. Size 58 (too big for me alas) with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at a generous 12cm at the center dent. High quality velour with a great hand hat which had me stumped for various reasons. First of all it felt a bit rough when I first handled it, which sometimes happens with these older velour hats. This was different though because I found out it has the nap flowing clockwise. I think I have one other hat with that feature, a hat by Vezzani. Can't place the AF on the size label.
The other thing that has me wondering is wether this was meant to be a rip off of Hückel or if that it's just a coincidence. I'm thinking it's its own thing. Unfortunately there's no label under the sweatband to help us along.

It’s the “empty” box that arrives for sure! They usually can’t tell the difference between any of our hats after that. LOL
