So after being about 40 pages behind on this thread, I finally caught up just in time for my two week summer holiday. Ready to start posting some hats, but day 1 of the summer holidays, in hospital with a herniated disc in my back. Expected to be in hospital for two weeks, with not a hat in sight.

OMG… been there, done that, and couldn’t be more sympathetic. It doesn’t take much effort!
Get well soon, and NEVER miss your PT, Gary. It’s a life sentence.

Oh no! Hope you feel better my friend. Back can be very debilitating. And no matter what they say…. ice is your friend. It was for me at least.

and when you get moving a bit again… Charlie recommended a great little book on tips/exercises that really help.

Thanks guys. It really does **** big time. I can sit up now, but still can’t walk. Spending all day on a hospital bed *****. Only showering twice a week (until I can shower myself) *****, and (believe it or not) even being showered by two young ladies *****!
Still, every day’s getting a little better and I’ve got a new (to me) hat waiting for me when I get home.

So sorry to hear of this Gary. Being flat on your back is no fun. Hopefully they have good drugs. Hope to see you recovered & from home soon.
Thanks Jack. The doctor seemed surprised at how much movement I already had, so I plan to be back home enjoying a nice whisky ahead of schedule. I’d like to get at least two or three days of my holiday relaxing at home.

When I was in a similar situation the doctors told me to drink plenty of caffeinated beverages as caffeine generates spinal fluid. Hard to drink hot coffee when you’re flat on your back & can’t even prop up your head. I settled on drinking ice tea.

Ouch! You need to get your bride to smuggle you in a hat and a bottle of something good to kill the time with

Here's hoping each day brings a little less pain and a lot more peace. Thinking of you Gary, get well soon my friend.

Thank you, gentlemen. Maastricht is a fine place to visit, Robert. Rieux has been doing those concerts for quite while now. Looked down upon by purists a bit, but that's just snobbery. I think it's OK to be upstaged by a car that nice. Looking great (both you and the car).
You are too kind, Stefan, grateful thanks. Rieu fills huge stadiums because everyday people love his style. We will only go if Tina is given medical permission. Her recovery continues.

This one!! An approach to back pain that’s now standard in the PT industry, the MacKenzie Method. Robin MacKenzie, an osteopath in New Zealand discovered this method by accident.
First, check the short section of how to be sure it will help, not hurt.
