Got a real pleasant surprise box today. Its a Resistol with no size listed in the advert. For $20 some dollars the felt looked decent so I took a chance. I knew the sweatband was toast going in, but thats a non issue to me.

The felt is surprisingly soft and supple. Definately furfelt and NOT wool. Did find a tag under the sweat that id's it as a 7-1/8. Its a really loose 7-1/8, so Ill have no problem rehabbing and reblocking it into a proper 7-1/4. 5-1/2" crown, 3-1/2" brim. The cherry on top of this deal is that if you look closely at the worn sweatband, you can see embossing as a "Clear Beaver 50". Once upon a time this may have been a nice hat ( and will be again soon). a couple minor nibbles scattered around, but a 3/4" ribbon will cover most of them just fine.. Im thinking a 3/4" ribbon with a campaign bow. Glad I took a chance on it for sure! Little bit of cleaning and it going to be a nice one

Here to gripe about sellers, per usual, especially, international ones, shipping in bags.

The first is a Borsalino so I'm not worried how it will turn out for me. The second is a Cervo, also a great Italian brand, shipped from The UK, that will also be just fine. I guess sellers who treat their hats like this are the price we pay to get them at good prices, for they do not know their worth.

This hat caught my eye floating in the “Bay” with a super great price and a couple things gave me the idea it might have some age to it And curiosity got the better of me. Unfortunately below its great low price was a rather ginormous shipping price. I noticed it was being sold with a Stephen L Stetson hat box that was already looking the worse for wear, so I reached out to the seller to see if they would ship just the hat and work out a better shipping price. They kindly obliged and this interesting hat arrived on my doorstep this afternoon Coming to a Post New Hats soon.

First time for everything. I liked a hat. Seller sends me an offer. I was like.... okay. I buy the hat. Seller contacts me today asking for more information. Did I mean to purchase this hat from someone else?

Hi, I am very confused with your purchase of this fedora hat. I listed this 5 days ago and would not have lowered this price or offer at this point. Are you sure you did not mean to purchase this from someone else. Please contact me with any more information. **XXXXX

Hi **XXXXX. Yes, I'm sure this is the correct hat. An offer for the hat appeared through eBay, and I simply accepted the offer that was presented to me. I didn't submit an offer or request a lower price.

My understanding is that eBay can automatically send offers to interested buyers depending on the seller's offer settings, so perhaps that's what happened here. In any event, the price I purchased it for was the price eBay offered me on the listing.

I'm happy with the purchase and would like to proceed with the order. Thanks!

She hasn't responded yet.

I would say I've only just recently figured out how to somewhat identify the occasional hat that I may not lose my shirt on, should I find myself in the unfortunate position of needing to sell one, and this is one of those hats.

I have no idea what is going to happen next, but it should be interesting, at least. I will be annoyed if I don't end up with the hat; I wanted this one for a particular reason. It fills a gap in my collection that I have been looking to fill for a bit.

What would you guys do in this situation?

I suppose it depends on what the offer was for (like was it a reasonable price to pay or was it like you're robbing them blind and obviously was an accident) and is the seller someone that has little or no experience with eBay. If the seller is familiar with eBay, it's kinda on them if they can't set their listings up properly. Especially since I just looked it up and the auto send offers feature is something you have to turn on yourself.

If it seems like it was a valid offer I'd wait for them to ship it and complain to eBay if they don't. If you made an offer and decided after the seller accepted it that you didn't want to pay that much, would they cancel it because you changed your mind? Most likely no.

I have to say while I like the hunt, and I love scoring a good deal, I'm tired of sellers that don't know what they're selling but want top dollar for it (I'm looking at you $200 hat listings with no size and no measurements or is in need of a full clean and reblock and sweatband replacement) because they saw some other hat by Stetson or Dobbs sold for that much. I kind of feel like if I have to do the work for you of figuring out what you have and how old it is or am going to have to sink significant funds into making it wearable I should get a heavily discounted price as compensation.
