London Town is cosplaying as Hell this Bank Holiday Monday - at 34 Celsius, it's the hottest May day on record since 1922. Really not conducive to trying to get some actual work done. Any semblance of dressing respectfully is out the window; I'm reduced to a t-shirt, The lower half, not in picture, is a pair of SoF denim BattleDress trousers (which cope fairly well with the heat, and that thigh pocket does a lot for the pocket-detritus that would otherewise be in a jacket in civilised temperatures. On my feet, a pair ofc Van Authentic plimsols, as this is the sort of day I have to give in and eshew the footleather in favour ofc canvas. Come back Winter, please!

Can't believe it was only last Sunday I was able to dress decently, for the annual Summer Chap Flaneur...

Third photo copyright Clayton Hartley; full outfit and canine accessory visible. (Doubtless, young Bertrand would refer to me as the human accessory...).
Seeing Eros in the background you just have to be in Pickled Lilly Circus. The Chap has always contrived to clash dates with me, but I will get there.
Edward you have captured the essence of Chap perfectly, right down to the pipe in your top pocket. Compliments to you Sir.

This blazer was such a fortunate find. A trader at a vintage function let it go for just twenty pounds. My tailor tells me that it has been made to measure, adding, by a very skilled artisan.
Do you recognise the bow-tie?

Lining up the fabric pattern the way Tina does, can produce quite a bit of waste. My lady has a novel way of utilising that waste, look again at the bow-tie pattern.

Thank you sir for your comprehensive review of the Gadabout suit. I’m about to purchase their 2 piece suit myself. I’m opting out of the waistcoat as it appears to have synthetic lining which would defeat the breath ability of the cotton linen to begin with. Does the jacket have a minimal skeleton lining?

Yes, most of the lining is down the front to accommodate inside pockets, with just a couple of pieces over the top of the shoulders at the back on mine. I'm assuming they haven't changed the design with the latest restocking.

Very kind.

Yes, indeed - bang in that location. A fun part of town for a promenade.

Saturday's Chap Olympiad 2026, the glorious return of the Games (at a new location in Lewes) after a sever year hiatus.

Better close-up of the to half....

Jacket arm is a sensible length on me, but looks a bit odd as the battle bowler was sliding off my shoulder and taking the jacket with it as the shutter closed. Hat Dobbs Rosebud, jacket and waistcoat Socialite by Revival Vintage, trousers Darcy's dye-able drill cotton, dyed to a purpled hue in my own, fair washing machine.

This came in earlier today. Cathcart London Shorman jeans and burgundy linen camp shirt.
I was expecting the combo a few days ago so I wasn't able to get it to the tailor but what do y'all think? Took it with me on a short trip.

I'll take it to the tailor this Saturday but I'm going to go enjoy it as is for now.

Looks great; what were you planning on having altered? (I wouldn't!)

I had to double up the cuff on the pant leg which made them hard to keep neat. I ironed them in place and still ended up pinning the legs up. I'm going to have them hemmed and a proper cuff added.
The shirt sleaves are also a bit long. Otherwise I'll be shooting for the baggy fit.

Ah, gotcha. I have a pair of those jeans as well (I need to lose a bit of weight before I can wear 'em). My own concern is that at only 34" inside leg they're too short for a decent cuff. I like mine doubling over at least once. I try where possible to get a 36" inside leg for two double-overs if it's available. Vive la difference, though!

The length is one of the things I love about the Cathcart shirts. Far too many shirts these days I fdn that are otherwise nice are unwearably short as they've been cut to be worn untucked. Weirdly, I've also had vests (as in undershirts) that are the same, too short. And I don't wear any trousers lower than my natural waist at that! Funny old world.

Great look, though. I've got a few of those shirts, love the collar and the fit. I would be tempted, though, by one without the pockets as I wear braces a lot.

I'm leaving the body length alone. The sleeves are a bit long. So those are getting trimmed. If I don't tighten the cuffs they fall around my knuckles. I'm having them shortened to fall just short of my thumb joint.
I had the hardest time finding true high rise jeans. I finally broke down and bought these. I couldn't be happier with them. They are the most comfortable jeans I've worn.
Cathcart just released their winter collection. They have some plus fours and Norfolk jackets like I've been wanting for a while.

They're a great label. My only grouse is than in recent years they've stopped their jackets a size below what I need, and all their trousers two or three sizes down. I hoped one day to get back into a 42 waist, but I'll never be a 40 again shy of some serious medical problem. I can still fit shirts and accessories, though, so still very much a customer. If only I was much thinner, 90% of my wardrobe would be from Cathcart (as opposed to "only" about half of it, ha...).

By complete contrast to the above... on Saturday morning I grabbed what came to hand first just to take the dog out for a walk.

Did you ever catch your own reflection in a shop window and realise you're inadvertently cosplaying Ed Gein?

A slightly more presentable casual shot when I arrived in Paris for a work trip the previous week...

One of Bronson's takes on the USAAF "pre-war" ( *US* pre-war, so prior to 1942, when they switched to green / khaki HBT) A3 Mechanic's Cap. This version lacks the US Army logo, instead having "P O W" stenciled on the front. Between 1942 and 1945, somewhere around 400,000 Axis POWs were shipped to the US for holding. With wartime shortages of employees, many of these POWs were put to work in factories, uniformed in surplus, reissued US denim work fatigues. Jackets were stenciled with a large "PW", POW on the caps (A3s and Daisy Maes, depending what was in stock locally.) I've also got an early edition of Bronson's regular denim A3. Only fault with that was the early runs were labelled "Army Air Force", not the correct "Army Air Forces", though I believe in more recent runs they've corrected that. Otherwise every bit as good as much more expensive labels' renditions of the A3 (Luctece and Real McCoys included) that I've handled in person. Picked up mine on eBay, though Bronson are getting easier to find from online dealers off-ebay as well.
