I want to share my experience with a recent pair of boots from Unsung House, and show off a few photos of the end result.
As many of you know, Unsung House makes some of the finest boots in the world. I’ve owned Role Club, Grant Stone, Alden, Lofgren, and Clinch (currently for sale) — and in my personal opinion, none of them come close to the perfection of these.
The fit is the thing. Unsung builds custom, exceptionally precise lasts from his customers’ measurements, and he has a rare gift for translating those measurements into a finished boot that fits perfectly. The heavily shaped heel cup means there is zero heel slip in the walk — almost unheard of in an engineer boot.
But while the fit is what elevates these boots, every detail is dialed in. The construction is flawless. Unsung somehow walks the line between elegant silhouette and rugged durability — his boots have a faintly cowboy-ish quality that’s hard to articulate but deeply satisfying in person.
I had this pair made in Dark Cognac Shell, which is an extraordinary leather. In these photos, taken shortly after conditioning and brushing, it reads almost black — but in person, it carries a depth of dark brown tones and has clear teacore properties. I’ll post follow-up photos after some real wear; this leather should patina beautifully.
I won’t drag this out. Huge credit to Unsung for these. They’re spectacular.
