Odd Sweatband Spacer/Repair

I got this hat in today, and this looks a little off to me. I can’t see any legitimate reason why this would be constructed this way.

It looks as though the sweatband was stitched to some sort of corrugated spacer material that was placed between the sweatband and the felt.

Have you guys seen this before? Thoughts?

I have found mentions of this spacer issue in the BB thread, but I have yet to find the explanation. I will find it.

In general I’m just not particularly happy with this hat. This seller doesn’t accept returns, so I seized on what appeared to me to be an undisclosed repair as a legitimate reason to initiate a return. Having said that, since it turns out that this is not the case, if the seller is not amenable to a return I will not try to force the issue. I’ve always been one to do what I say I will do even if it costs me.

It is a very nice hat. I will do the new hat thing for this one after I get a response from the seller.

This is a great example of why a collector should ask questions aplenty. Ask even general questions; such as are there any flaws, or unshown anomalies to this hat. Then if you receive something like this you have grounds to ask Ebay for a return. My experience as long as the reason is documented they will back the seller.

Agreed. In this case, however, the error is mine. This detail is intentional, and the hat itself just isn't quite as I expected. It is very difficult to know these things without being able to hold an item in your hands prior to purchasing it. I will talk about this further when I make the new hat post for this hat, and it may turn out that my reticence in this area is also unfounded.

At any rate, the hat is mine now, and it's starting to grow on me. This is just one of the first moments I've had where I thought, "hmmm... maybe I'd rather have my money back than this hat." I was so hyped up to get this one that any disappointment at all was a little devastating lol.

Having said that, the seller of this hat did nothing wrong. The hat was accurately described, impeccably handled, shipped using a time machine, and packaged as well or better than any other hat I've purchased. The communication I instigated regarding a potential return was handled very professionally. I didn't ask for anything, because I didn't deserve anything, and the seller didn't offer to let me send it back.

If our positions had been reversed, I may have offered to allow the return just for the sake of preserving a potential future business relationship, but a bird in the hand... is a bird. Two birds in the bush is zero birds.

Personally, for a non-custom item, I don't feel that having a no return policy is the most customer-friendly way to go, but I'm sure these guys have to deal with a lot of nonsense, and at any rate, it was my choice to buy a hat from someone with a no return policy. I don't really have any ground to stand on.

Having said that, I will think long and hard before I buy something from somewhere that doesn't allow returns for non-custom items going forward. :)

It's for air flow.
