Chinese leather jackets

I think their jackets are worth it if you buy them via agent using Taobao, not from the usual resellers recommended here
I'm not so sure of that. If you live in China, for sure, but if you're in EU or US and still need to make use of an agent, I don't think it will be that worthy over the usual resellers/middlemen if that is the only thing you're buying. If you're buying more stuff from China, the agent will 100% be the better option though.

This said, I'm not aware of the exact prices, so I would be happily corrected here.

Using an agent if you're based in China makes no sense to me, but maybe I'm missing something since I don't have a vast experience buying from China. As you say, an agent like superbuy is usually much worth it if you purchase more than a jacket or specially, from multiple sellers.

That being said, Simmons Mulholland model is ~185€/$220 on Taobao. Brake House price is $400-$450.

Add maybe 60-100$ for int'l shipping using an agent. Customs aren't usually a problem since Chinese sellers usually don't declare the full value of the purchase, or at least that was my experience.

I think it would be super interesting to discuss on this thread high end Chinese makers who are pretty much on pair with the usual big dogs all experienced users we know.

Even if its one jacket, the agent route will probably still save you $50-100 compared to going with a middleman. Customs and tariffs have the same risks as they normally have to ship through the same lines.

I have been curious to buy a Ray Kwok, but weather is a bit warm now and might plan it for later this year...

I totally agree. I think most people on this thread are unaware of some other makers on Taobao who produces much higher quality repros using top tier leathers like Shinki, Horween, Maryam, etc...

Veloudky, Simmons, etc... looks nice, but nowhere close to some others makers.
Also, I think their jackets are worth it if you buy them via agent using Taobao, not from the usual resellers recommended here.

Unfortunately I don't have any experiences with them, but they seem pretty reputable if you take a look to their Taobao rating.

Several of these images are Joe McCoy jackets though, so do you think you are you buying the original Joe McCoy jacket here or a knock off?

That is the problem with Chinese jackets. I don't think anyone doubts that Chinese can make a product on par with any other makers... But if I'm going to spend close to the same money as Western makers, I don't see the point.

There's so many bait & switch horror stories coming from goods purchased from China that it's not worth the risk with high end jackets. I do find it worth it with Jia Shis, Simonses and Vuloekdkdlys as the price is quite low, on par with [fast] fashion leather jackets rather than on par with the high end makers.

Are the actual images taken from Joe McCoy’s catalog, or is the design originally sold by J. McCoy’s and then reproduced by Ray Kwok (the Chinese maker from where I grab the pictures)? I’m genuinely asking, since I can’t seem to find these pictures online when I search for things like “Joe McCoy grizzly/ leather jacket.”

I’m by no means an expert when it comes to buying from Chinese makers. I’m already fortunate enough to own a couple of jackets made by Regius, and I don’t really need much beyond that. But at the same time, I’m not naive enough to assume that every seller on Taobao, Yupoo, or even eBay is trustworthy. If someone is seriously interested in these jackets, it’s their responsibility to do the research and figure out whether the brands are legitimate or relying on questionable practices.

A lot of the time, you can find reviews from real customers wearing the jackets and showing them in varying levels of detail, which helps.

The makers I shared are generally considered reputable within China. They often use hardware, leathers, and fabrics sourced from the US, Japan, and Europe.

Of course, they’re not the most creative when it comes to original designs — at least the ones I mentioned — but to be fair, many well-known and acclaimed brands here also produce accurate reproductions of the most iconic leather jacket designs.

@eyewildshot Probably could bring much more info about Ray Kwok, Guofo & CO and others, since he offer some of their products on his online shop.

I am no expert in this either, I just did a reverse image search and it matched something on the Joe McCoys website... Maybe they are both copying the same design and labels. It is a confusing area with a lack of clear information.

I tried a couple of these jackets when they were around the £100 mark and it was no big loss but now some of these are three and four times that, its beyond what I'm willing to gamble.

Which manufacturer made your jacket? Let’s see some pictures!
Don't get me wrong, the jacket is very well made. For the price you can't beat it. Actually looks good next to my Real McCoys J24. Also, after letting the jacket breath overnight the smell isn't nearly as strong.

Looks really nice! Thanks for sharing these photos. I believe the Jiashi brand is supposed to be one of the best in this space. I thought I heard that the smell goes away relatively quickly. Enjoy your beautiful new jacket.

Why would you downgrade to buying cheap Chinese version if you already own a Real McCoys J24 ? just curious. The quality between the two leathers must be night and day.

Because you never know till you try. The Crush on Retro jacket is getting good reviews, so I thought I'd check it out. So far it has not disappointed.
