The hatband is deffinately nice looking on that Gus style hat, I was trying to imagine that hat style with a rattlesnake hat band. I like the way the crown crease gets wider toward the back, I thought that the Gus crown crease was a bit tighter. A nice wide hat band really looks good.

That is one slick looking Gus!

I have always been curious about how the crown & brim were shaped on a Gus style hat. Beautifully shaped Gus style hat.

very cool - is it my imagination or that Gus a little more chill than the ones I’m used to seeing?

Thank you guys. This O’Farrell was made in ~1989-1990 in Kevin’s shop in Durango & was blocked & shaped as a Rancher. It’s all natural beaver. I’m a technical guy & study a lot of blocking. It’s not a Gus but most people don’t know the difference. If you have a Western block that has some taper in it, one way to minimize the taper is to stand the sides up more by widening or opening up the back of the crease & drawing the crease in & narrower as it comes forward (think lightbulb shaped). It’s closest to what Ritch Rand called a Tom Horn. It’s the same principle as when you put a diamond crease in a fedora & it makes the hat fit wider on your head. I brought the bumpers down on the sides & had the hatband made by a beader.

I can’t step out of my house without sniffing the smell of burning weed.
Charlie, fire up a charcoal grill or little hibachi & throw on a piece of pork fat to sizzle, smoke & mask the other smell. Guaranteed to make you hungry.

We had a rental house once & some tenants cooked with a lot of curry. It took a while to get that smell out of the house.

I love Indian food, but you know where it’s been

I do like that hat band, you had me there, that bead work is really some nice work, I was looking close at the hat band wondering how you made the hat band.

Yesterday was an out of the house day, and a hot one. Into town for a meeting with one of my PhD supervisees, then extended planning meeting with other members of a new Institute at work that's taking off. An Akubra Capricorn sort of day - alas, no photos. Today is a lazy Saturday, bits and pieces of errands all within ten minutes' walk from the house. I'm slobbing about in OD denim battledress pants, so this 1942-spec Daisy Mae was grabbed on the way out the door. in truth, it was *almost* the olive hemp Stratoliner, but the brown trim on that paired with the black braces and boots I already had on woulda made me twitchy.

I 'discovered' Daisy Maes only a couple of years ago, but they get regular wear on really lazy Summer days now. I have a brown M1917 from WPG, a blue denim and a green camo both from Bronson, and this olive green one from Soldier of Fortune. Wearing them is of course a lot like the later era boonie hats that were my standard Summer option a quarter of a century ago. It took me longer to warm to this olive one for some reason, but now I have I'm oddly tempted by the slightly more structured Saigon Cowboy hat WPG do. That's a good chunk outside my normal period of interest, but I feel it calling me and I suspect this Summer I might weaken and succumb.

J. Hückel´s Söhne Velour, possibly early 1930s. This light Green Gray Velour came from a Czech seller. The paper label is missing the Velour Quality designation. Also the Liner was missing which I replaced with one I received from Optimo Chicago. It's a bit worn but I do like the look of it. I found this Velour back in 2013 and I believe that was the last time I posted it here.

J. Hückel´s Söhne Store Display, probably 1930s. It came from an old Milwaukee, Wisconsin store. I found this Display back in 2014.

The cool convinced me it was a good day for biscuits and gravy... As a related note, Mr Bear now has ANOTHER favorite food . We already have a "hats and drinks" section... maybe we should have a dedicated "hats and food" one too lol
