Sam Walker highwayman copy in cxlhh

Hi folks, After a highwayman jacket and Come across this one that suits my measurements (similar to me beloved type 2 field Leathers 42)
it’s p to p 57cm shoulders 49 and sleeve and body length 63cm

the price is reasonable but wanted to show you how it looks before pulling the trigger : seller claims it’s made by aero but I doubt it is, now could you say on the photo whether it’s a well made piece or not ?
it’s supposed to be cxl horse hide, looks like it but how to know.

I’ve only ever handled one Sam Walker ‘Highwayman’ style jacket, a black steerhide one, and it had all the look and texture of a rubber wetsuit. Definitely one to have avoided.
From the photos the hide on this one doesn’t look bad, however I’d want to check into it more, particularly how the seams on the sleeves line up.
It might just be how the photo was taken but looking at the back of the jacket the seam going up the sleeve on the right lines up with the back yoke (as it should), yet there’s no sign of the similar seam on the other sleeve lining up with the back yoke on the left side.

Also, although the Sam Walker shop in Covent Garden did, at one time, sell Aero Leather jackets, those from Aero Leather are on record as saying no jackets were made for Sam Walker with a Sam Walker label.

Yes, that about covers it all.

The TL/DR is that Sam Walker started as an Aero stockist. There appears to have been a period when they sold Aero jackets with both an Aero and a Sam Walker label, before selling jackets only branded as Sam Walker, sourced from another supplier who copied the Aero designs but with less quality materials and components. This looks to me like one of those later items, particularly given that Sam Walker label is a knock-off of the Aero motorcycle & plane label, which I doubt they'd have permitted.

Don't be misled by claims that this one was made by Aero - there no guarantees at all that that's true. It's always possible that there were some jackets that were relabeled by Sam Walker, though none of the ones made in the Aero factory left Aero without an Aero label. Some of the SWs are reasonable jackets in their own right (if you can get past the ethics of what was done), others less so. I certainly wouldn't suggest paying anything close to Aero money - treat it you would any other, unknown, contemporary brand when it comes to actual value.

I think if you want, for this price and in size 36, you can easily find a jacket from Aero.

Will stay away from this one. At 400$ there are better investments to be made

Eeps, yes - That's about four times what I'd consider risking on this, tbh. You should be able to find an actual Aero Highwayman on eBay for about that with a little patience. Being a smaller size is a bonus there - it's the jackets for us heftier lads as tend to get pricey fast on the used market.

$400 is way overpriced and if the photos are an accurate representation with the sleeve seams not lining up then the jacket could barely even be described as being a ‘second’
As others have noted with that level of budget it should be possible to pick up an Aero Leather jacket in pretty decent condition.

Yes - though a lot of the Japanese listings I see on eBay UK are relatively expensive, but plenty of them if you keep looking. Aero's sale page is worth checking up on too.

Never buy from JP via Ebay, those are ofter resellers who don't even have the product but will buy it once you buy from them and make a nice profit.
