What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Ludwig Skriwanek Graz, Hutfabrikation, possibly early to mid 1930s. I do not have any information on the production capabilities of Ludwig Skriwanek Graz Hutfabrikation so possibly sourced. This Stiff Felt is a Mélange with a shorter cropped Rauh / Rough finish. Great Form and tight well executed Brim work. Really classy Liner design highlighted by the company Crest. It has an intact Braided Wind Cord and is in overall excellent condition. It's difficult to find Mélange Stiff Felts especially in 57 cm and above. This is one of my favorite Stiff Felts.

You can get a closeup look at the mélange Felt with a shorter cropped Rauh / Rough finish at the bottom edge of the Sweatband (see below).

English translation of Skriwanek - Hüte catalog (possibly 1920s). I was made aware of this catalog back in back in 2023.

I don't know about any other Loungers, Steve, but I am INCREDIBLY envious of your ability to find hats of such venerable vintage, in such AMAZING condition! Kudos on another phenomenal score!

From my experience with Hemp Open Roads and Stratoliners, Steam and a Steam Iron ( with press cloth) are your friends... Good luck

any white cotton lightweight cloth will do. Hit it with a fair bit of steam and press it down flat by hand... hold it flat for 20-30 seconds to cool down. Cover brim with a press cloth and hit it with a good dose of steam. Dont set the iron too hot and gently iron the brim flat. Once fairly flat and cool, steam it again and gently pull the brim down in front till you get it where you like it. Start with just a little swoop at a time... Have fun and show us what you come up with

A beautiful sunny day... time to get this c.1910 Hawes Von Gal out for a spring freshening up. This is the only soft hat from this maker that I've come across - it is among the rarest hats in my collection. Hawes Von Gal marketed their $3 hat heavily in their prime during the late 19th and early 20th century. By 1914 the price had risen to $3.50. They were gone not long after.

G’day all, new member here I figured I’d share what I’ve got on today. Stetson 4x Carson from what I believe is the 90s, of course it looks nothing like it originally did. I bought it “new” from a locally owned western wear store last year. They had trimmed the brim down to 3 inches vs the original 3 3/4 I believe. And they kinda just had it and I presume used it as a shaping practice hat because no one would buy a 7 5/8s hat. Payed 69.99 “new” and for a part beaver hat, couldn’t pass it up for a work and camping. Have since done away with the cattleman and added a unique “Sage Skyline” crease (gave it a new name myself because I have not found the original name or who made it popular) originally popular in the 1920s with the Huge 7+ inch crown hats of the time. Have many more unique creases and hats if anyone is interested in far out 20s style creases.
