I was able to smuggle the Northwest hats into the bottom of a check-in bag, so I'll be heading to flatbedder training with two of my very best.
I would not have considered taking a vintage hat except this one has a quality, modern sweatband from @Randall Renshaw and the 3Xes are practically bulle.t proof.
Next stop, Chicago and then a limousine service to... wait for it...

Rainy grey weather this morning, but not quite enough to pull on an Akubra. So today we have one of the other Champ Featherweights ( I love Featherweights). This ones got a bit more brim curl than the brown one a couple days back

"Windsor", Anton Peschel Dinkelsbühl, possibly late 1950s. I was able to determine, via the paper label format, that some German Market "Windsor" branded hats were manufactured by Anton Peschel Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria, West Germany. Really like the minimalistic pleated Band Bow design. Also the contrasting Felt, Band and Brim Binding. I found this Soft Felt back in 2012.

As of late, I have been showing the symptoms of a hernia, something my doctor described as an inguinal hernia. I won't bore you with the details, suffice to say, it does get in the way of enjoying retirement.
Yesterday, I kept the pre-op assessment, at the hospital where the problem will, hopefully, be dealt with. My doctor's secretary had made the appointment and on handing me the card with time of the said appointment along with details of the department within the hospital, she said: "Your surgeon is well known for his suits," her enigmatic smile said everything else.
What to wear? "Your blazers are more in keeping with summer sunshine," Tina said, as she observed the rain outside, then added, "have you chosen what to wear?" "Pin-stripe suit, with the Susquehana bespoke hat," I replied.
What I didn't say was the pin-stripe suit was my Zoot suit.
An e-mail from the hospital this morning informed me that the appointment went well, I shall be having surgery in the near future. I'm guessing that the e-mail was from someone who saw me yesterday. At the end of the e-mail a note read: "Your hat & suit impressed." Who it impressed was left unsaid.

It felt ( pun intended) like a brown hat day this morning. This ones a modest little Royal Stetson Temple, but to me its always been such a nice color. It was missing the liner when it got here so Im not sure what it had originally. Stuck this one in so at least it says Stetson. Sweat has always had a good tear but it stays put and I just leave it alone

A classic Stetson 7x5 (seven inch crown. five inch brim) in clear nutria. This hat arrived with a matching green brim binding that was badly shredded and I decided to remove it. It's a hefty hat that provides good shade on those rare Buffalo sunny days. LOT5XXX would suggest c.1930 or a little earlier.

Spring's peculiarity is its changeable days.
Sunny and fresh air this morning in Veneto.
A Borsalino Grand Prix 1900 with peach felt trim.
Extremely soft and malleable, it accompanied me on my walk to the studio and hat storage area.
I really admire this color, somewhere between brick red and plum. I've found it quite often in European hat shops, happily finding it on the vintage market.
As always, it's fascinating to see your hats and admire things that are rarely found here in Italy.
