Lots of great hats going into storage today, including this late-40s Stetson 3XME. This guy is a hat emeritus: I retired him a few years ago because he is just so worn out.

BTW, it is official: I am going back to trucking. In fact, I fly out next Sunday for Gary, Indiana to start a short stint as a flatbedder.

Within the next few days, my hat collection will dwindle to maybe five or six not yet in storage. It is so difficult to put these guys away. I will take the Northwest hat with me for flatbedder training.

Happy Friday friends.

Great news on the work front! I hope you are bringing a boater :).

Thank you!

Not much need for a boater on a flatbed, though. (I actually don't own a boater - it's one hat I don't feel I could pull off.)

I hope to find my way to your neck of the woods a few times this year. I love Montana! The company is out of Wisconsin so there's always hope that I'll be sent to Seattle.

Perhaps my new most favorite hat in the lounge

Absolutely BREATHTAKING, Alan. And so incredibly pristine!!!
Lovely Knox Twenty Alan and yes it’s not hard to see just from your images.
Your last sentence statement is a bold statement and got me to thinking about that.
It takes a while in collecting and only after handling many hats does one come to that realization but it’s true.
I’ve felt that Dobbs and Knox to be two brands in particular that really went above and beyond in making hats for the Twenty dollar hat man.
I still recall the day i opened the box of a Dobbs Fifteen, never worn, still open crown and the moment i touched it i said “Oh wow”! I was dumbfounded. It was so elegant and refined. I compared it to 100s and other’s of my best hats and came away with less awe of the high dollar siblings and smiled knowing those Fifteen, Twenty dollar hat guys got “some hat”.
Silly, my Fifteen still hasn’t been worn, not even creased yet. Didn’t have the heart to lose that “Oh wow” moment.
Thanks for the post Alan and your Knox Twenty is definitely an “Oh wow” hat.
The joys of hat collecting!
B

Thanks for the nice comments. This was an early purchase and one I haven't worn that much outside the house. When I posted pictures of it in 2011 I was still taking hat photos with a real camera. ;^)

Mayser "Grosser Preis", M. Mertés Hutfabrik, Inh. Max Hecht Nürnberg Karolinenstr. 8, possibly mid 1920s. The Felt is a Mélange with a Rauh finish. Mayser Ulm often used shorter width Bows on their Stiff Felts and sometimes offset. I was fortunate to find this Mélange + Rauh finish Stiff Felt back in 2022.

Gamble and G make some very nice hats, had no idea they made bespoke! Good News for those with larger heads
G&G bought out the hat maker that I previously made my hats, that being The Susquehana Hat Company. A phone call to G&G proved most fruitful, they had my account and as Susquehana had many a client who used their made to measure service, G&G intended to continue offering bespoke.
It might seem ostentatious but having made to measure guarantees a comfortable fit and long lasting wear. I have been spoiled all my married life by my talented wife who has made wardrobes full of clothes for me.

Yesterday's hat is pressed into service for church today. It compliments the shirt and trousers that Tina specifically made to wear with this blazer. There's a fellow at church who thought that I was telling porkies when I said that my wife made the shirt and trousers.
Tina's response to the insult was: "What do you expect from someone who dresses like they are wearing a sack!" My lady never pulls her punches.
Is the term "Porkies," leaving you scratching your head? It's Cockney rhyming slang. Porkies, Pork Pies, Lies! So now you know.
