Hi

I’m faced with the same dilemma, jackets that looked just right suddenly appear too long with high waisted pants. How does it look zipped?

It’s a cool vintage-style jacket with a fairly short back and big front drop. The body is more of a straight ‘Japanese fit’ but honestly I can’t fault the jacket - it just wasn’t working for me, so it’s already on the way to a new owner.

i have a MF Campus Cossack jacket on the way, which is a roomier fit with a higher waist that looks as good zipped and unzipped with high waist jeans. It’s also unlined, which will be better for my climate than the wool lining of the Hercules. The overdyed cow looks more rough-and-tumble, ready to be aged than the gorgeous Shinki in the Herc, which I always felt the need to baby.

Yeah that blue bomber I posted earlier was a MF Pensacola jacket… cut similarly high waisted… they are so well made and intricately detailed, it’s a shame the sizing and cut is so petite.

You’re not alone. It’s what a lot of folks are realizing now. However, I don’t think there is a right and wrong answer. I think a slightly longer jacket unzipped can still look good with high rise trousers. After all, a suit jacket certainly comes far below the waistline so it’s not like all jackets must end near the belt.

Finnaly got the "I.G.Frank" aviator from JP. Mystery chinese brand I guess. And it DID arrive packaged in a "Real Simmons" bag, but maybe the owner just re-used a bag from another jacket, hard to say.
Comments on the fit?
I don't like it enough to keep as is due to the extra space in the waist and bottom hem and the left handwarmer pocket, but I'm considering taking it to the butcher (tailor) to see if she could take in the waist and bottom hem and do something about the pocket without going too expensive.
I like the rest of the fit enough to give it a try.
The front lenght could be shorter for my taste, but the two way zipper (a real nice one to boot) does at least partially mitigate that.

Seems like a great piece of leather mate! and I really think the roomier fit looks great on your frame, but I know far to well that looking at a picture(or a video in this case :D) of a jacket isn't the same as actually wearing it for yourself :)

If it were up to me I would keep it without going through the butcher haha, but in the end it's your call to make bud!

Cheers!

Not all aviators are v shaped, in fact, a lot of them are hourglass shaped. There's a place for both, I'd keep the jacket as-is if I were you. It's a good fit.

Hourglass vs V shaped

Got this surplus shirt for $20. I suspect it is a little tight/small but I want a second opinion before I return it. Sorry about all the blue together, that’s just what I happened to be wearing when it got delivered.

It was super cheap, I thought it would make a nice overshirt because of the color weight… but yeah, I think my old OG-107 can scratch the itch. It's weird… I have never had a shirt fit me in the shoulders but be tight in the chest/pec region. Also, the sleeves are a few inches too short.

Sometimes I forget, after buying so many Real McCoys and Iron Heart pieces, how different the sizing and fit were on shirts 50-70 years ago.

Yeah! I've found that too with a lot of the old Pendleton shirts I've had. The sleeves were all about 2-3" shorter, particularly on the pearl snap versions. I was told it was a "work cut" thing to keep your sleeves out of whatever you were working on, so maybe that's what you ran into with this uniform shirt?

Nah I think that’s BS.

Fresh out of the box and just looking for a second opinion before I remove the tags. I was tired of jackets that looked good in pics but after an hour I was itching to take them off - especially while driving. Since I’m between sizes I went up for a more relaxed, comfort fit (which goes against the grain of the last few decades of chasing slim fits).

Side note: the leather on this smells divine. The unlined inside is soft like suede. Buttons are sewn on well and the pockets are plenty wide to stuff a hand in (but not deep enough that I’d trust them for storage).
