In the 56 cm size, or 7 in the US, a French hat was a must.
Morreton Chamois 1.jpg

I have a soft spot for them.
Morreton Chamois 3.jpg
It's hard to find quality Morreton, because they weren't a leading brand on the French market.
I have several in my collection, but few are special.
Morreton Chamois 5.jpg

This one stands out for its color, felt finish, and color combination.
Morreton "Chamois" in the shape of a "Diplomatique", for us Italians; "Lobbia" for the rest of the world; "Homburg."
Morreton Chamois 6.jpg
The color is marked on the paper label, but the sweatband is quite fragile; I don't want to damage it.
Morreton Chamois Interno.jpg
Finely lined, it's a high-end hat.
These are the measurements for the "Diplomatique." The curled brims, finished with a trim in the same color as the felt, are 6 cm. The hatband is 4 cm high, and the lowest part of the crown is 10.5 cm.
Morreton Chamois 7.jpg

I bought it on impulse, hoping, but alas, it's intended for the "lucky" ones with small sizes.

Recently purchased this Art Fawcett from Deadlyhandsome. It was 7 1/2+ with 2 3/4 brim and 5 in crown open. I'm a 7 1/4 so I reblocked it to 7 1/4 and increased crown to 5 1/2 with brim 3 inches. The liner view is the best representation as it is not as blue as the other three. The felt has some wash of the blue grey color so it comes across somewhat as a cloud. Heavier felt, not fully western 100% beaver weight, but heft to the hand and needs a little steam to change its mind. It was little worn and the felt likely will become more malleable with wear and handling. I treated it with respect as I felt like I was touching up the Mona Lisa when I was working on it. It joins my other VS, a steel grey with silver grey edge binding and black band that I have had a dozen or more years.

Here are my new hats. First in charcoal, is “The Shirwell “.by Gamble & ***n. The Tawny coloured Stetson Whippet is my latest hat. I put a green and cream coloured ribbon through the hat size loops to aid hanging on coat hangers. I gave it its first outing today and felt a million dollars and confident, which is something I’ve suffered from the lack thereof for most of my life. Getting old has its compensations after all. I can’t believe how timid I was before I even ordered The grey hat. I was rehearsing what I’d say if anyone was cheeky about it. Either “I’m 69 years old, I don’t ask permission for things”, or my humorous one for when someone says “you look like a gangster” (which I used to hear when I wore a black overcoat.) “Why I aughta!”.

No one has said anything silly though. What I didn’t expect however,, was how much I love wearing these hats. The wife loves them too. I should have gotten them years ago.

Wasnt sure it was going to make it here before the storm, but my favorite mailman showed up today with a light brown Akubra Banjo Paterson.... its well worn ( and shrunk just a bit) buts in really nice shape... felts really clean but the liners a tad bit crusty ( in dire need of some woolite) Its been well loved as its way softer than my black Banjo.. just needs a bit of stretching and steaming/ shaping. Maybe just a little new shellac to give it a bit more body. Will see if it really needs it after cleaning and steaming.... Wouldnt hurt me to have a hard AND a soft Banjo!

My BP is Imperial in Fawn, which is a grayish color. I had a Heritage quality Lawson in the color Loden, which is a chocolaty brown. The Lawson was too tight so I sold it. But it sure was a nice felt. I've seen the movie The Man From Snowy River and a side character was Banjo Paterson. Pretty decent movie and I like how they added Banjo Paterson.

They kinda had to add him.... Banjo Paterson is who wrote the origional "man from Snowy River" back about 1890... His story.... needed his name involved

I believe, what I have here, for $4, is a Brooklyn sold (Kova Hatters), black fedora for the Jewish religious market. As I have mentioned previously, most of these are currently of average to below average quality produced at a factory in Hungary. As @mayserwegener had recalled, correctly, that had not always been the case. Tonak had been, certainly prior to 2012, the major supplier outside of Borsalino. I think this is one of those Tonak-made hats with no recognizable markings. Of interest to @Daniele Tanto may be the branding that the shop used to make it seem that customers would be getting a "Borsalino"-like, "Italian" hat experience. They were (and still are mostly) the only European brand with name recognition in the community. It is a shame for Tonak (Selentino), but it is a longer story how that happened.

Took a chance on a cheap hat last week. Looked kinda of Open Roadish in the auction pics and it came from Meyer the Hatter in New Orleans. It was cheap and looked reasonable clean so I took a chance.

Mailman just dropped it off today and its actually a nice little hat. Furfelt- not wool ( I was kinda worried about that). 2-3/4" bound brim with 5-1/2" crown... and it fits me perfectly. Felts in really good condition ( really clean) except for one little boo-boo/ scuff on the back of the crown. once I steam it Ill fix a little bit of something inside to support the character mark from the inside.. thin but relatively firm body and brim... Not sure who Meyer the Hatter got their house hats from, but its a nice little lid... Popped the crown out and it takes a shape well.... All this one needs is a bit of steam , smoothing, and shaping. I love new hat day!
