A few months ago, in the category of interesting, curious, and often beautiful hats—but not in my size—I featured a Panizza Sud-Ovest hat made specifically for the Cabella hat shop in Milan.
Fausto Panizza 7.jpg

Today I have another hat, also from Panizza, located in Ghiffa on Lake Maggiore, made specifically for Dante Mutinelli's shop in Milan.
Fausto Panizza Interno.jpg
It's a line called "Fausto," from which Stefan @steur found and showed a Homburg a few months ago made from the same shop.
Fausto Panizza 4.jpg
This hat has some features that really piqued my interest.
The crown is full with three vents on each side, and the brims are narrow.
Fausto Panizza 6.jpg
It's all made of soft, dark brown felt. Its meticulous workmanship and shape make it look like a 1930s hat, although I have some doubts about that, despite the name of the hat shop being embossed on the leather sweatband.
Fausto Panizza 2.jpg
There's no paper label, or at least I couldn't find one; I probably would have had more information.
These are the measurements: the raw brims are 5 cm, the ribbon is 5 cm high, and the crown at its lowest height is 10.5 cm.
Fausto Panizza 1.jpg

The size is 56 cm by measurements for another out of fashion Italian hat from its era

I can't say I'm crazy about the little plastic inserts in the crown vents (or that the crown is vented, for that matter), but I really like the color and proportions of that hat. If I found one in my size (60 cm) I might just open the vault for a change. ;)

Stetson Whippet in tawny. Shout out to the village hat shop. They have been amazing. View attachment 721029 View attachment 721030
I should have searched for this before asking the question about its true colour. Thanks for posting these photos of the Stetson Whippet in Tawny. Especially when I, too, ordered from Village Hat Shop. I’m in Bonny Scotland. It’s my second fedora already. I’ve only had my first Fedora just over a week. Does it come in a Stetson Box?

It probably will, being a Stetson, but I know Village Hat Shop does send some hats in their own boxes.

Alex, I'll tell you, I was also attracted by the proportions, but above all by the mix of details.
I was hoping it would be 60 centimeters, but when I opened the box, the illusion was lost.
I don't think there are many Panizzas of this type around, but you never know. The order is booked :)

Really cool find, Daniele. Nice colour and shape to it. Panizza seems to have done those vents on occasion. I've found one before, which now has a place in Denmark. This one:

I'm going to have to start a thread for this one. It is not a vintage as what is usually found here, but this is one fine hat. I posted in the waiting for it thread, but now I know what I have. It's a Rafael. Rafael was a fashion brand founded by Bill Kaiserman, a New York retail salesman turned hat maker who made a significant impact on American fashion in the 1970s. The brand was known for introducing the "leisure aesthetic" to the American market, the leisure suit, among other fashion. In his hatting period he produced ones like these. A great felt (likely outsourced) and great construction and finishing. These days you'd have to go the custom route to get these looks. I think this one needs a feather.

Wegener Charcoal Grey
5 1/4 Crown as shaped
2 3/4 raw edge brim
1 3/4 grosgrain gills ribbon

Once again we go to the Stefan @steur Magical Mystery Care Box from last year… and what a fine hat we come up with this time. At 2 3/4 this one certainly is not a stingy brim. The felt is a charcoal grey that seems to color shift depending on light from grey grey to brownish grey… I think I even saw it shifting to a dark green indoors and has a very smooth hand to it. The ribbon is a slight bit lighter blueish grey finished with gills. The inscription in German on the sweatband reads “Handgefertigter Haarhutim Naturprodukt” which roughly translates to “Handcrafted hair hat made from a natural material” apparently indicating it is of fur felt. I gave this one a good brushing and some steam to reshape the brim a bit and I think it came up quite nicely. Truth be told I’ve been enjoying wearing this one most of the past week, only getting the time to take photos today. I do not know how to judge age on Wegener… but I would guess it to be fairly modern. Thanks again to Stefan for sending along this beauty.

The brother of the Barbisio shown yesterday is here for you.
Radio Barbisio 1 bis.jpg

This hat is from the same period as the Barbisio "Verelyte" in moss.
It also features a wide, prominent crown and compact brim, as was often the case with pre-war European hats.
Radio Barbisio 3.jpg
The Barbisio "Extra Quality" measures 56 centimeters, or 4 1/2 in France and 7 in the US.
Radio Interno.jpg
Fully unlined, it has a lightweight felt suitable for changing seasons.
Radio Barbisio 5.jpg
The felt is a deep blue, called "Radio" on the paper label, trimmed with a matching ribbon that creates a monochrome effect.
Radio Barbisio A.jpg
The hat's measurements are: the raw brim is 5.5 centimeters, the ribbon is 2.5 cm high, and the lowest part of the crown is 9.5 centimeters.
Radio Barbisio 6.jpg

This hat, and the previous Barbisio in green, are among the most interesting hats I've found from this maker in terms of shape and color. They stand out from the standard Italian hats of the period, with a particular charm.
Ask for details, if you like

Yes it came in a Stetson box. Although they do sometimes ship with a different type of set up...still protects hats but may be something like the bottom of a Stetson box with a different top as the cover. Happens sometimes with other hat sellers as well.. My guess is boxes get ruined or lost at some point so they do what they can. The main thing is that they arrive in good shape and out of 5 hats I purchased from them ALL were smooth sales.

I haven’t purchased anything from the USA for a good few years. The last couple of days I was getting stressed because the parcel was being held until I paid the customs fee which of course is normal. But I hadn’t got any card through the letterbox for how to pay it online. It was driving me nuts. The card did come about noon today though so all is well now. Mind you,£67.94 customs fee phew! But them’s the breaks I suppose. It’s now going to be delivered on Saturday so I’ll be able to wear it with my brown Harris Tweed overcoat this Sunday.

I really like this color combination! The way the ribbon reflects ambient light with just a hint of that blue color while the felt retains it's grey color--brilliant! My version would be a Pork Pie, but, y'know, I wouldn't want to steal ALL of your ideas. ;)

Thanks Al. All credit goes to Stefan for unearthing this one and seeding it my way. Hope you are doing well.
