What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Great hat! Although, my mind is having way too much fun trying to figure out what the sensors edited. :D
Gave me a good laugh too!. Though to be fair the state of Florida DMV censors had the same ruling for my sister-in-law when she tried to get this horse’s name as her vanity tag.

It was too overcast for good photos, but I wore the Sears Pilgrim 5X today. The hat is what I might call "forest green" in color.

I am not familiar with that hat maker

I actually messed up their name a bit

These guys were fantastic. My first visit they spent probably 3 hours with me teaching me about hats, using a conformateur to measure my head, letting me try on everything in the place...

I ended up buying a "factory second" of the shelf (I still cannot find the defect) and ordered a custom which they delivered a couple months later

Good heavens, Sir! You have an Embarrassment of Riches when it comes to great hats! I'd find myself lost at having to choose.

To be honest, and speaking as an enthusiastic amateur photographer, overcast skies sometimes are ideal times to take portraits. Grey skies mean less harsh shadows. Grey skies also mean we don't screw up our faces into wrinkles from the glare.

If faces is all you want, lots of lighting situations can do that. But on this thread most of us are trying to highlight the hats.

I also enjoy making as good a photo as I can, including vivid colors and interesting skyscapes. When the clouds are so full that you can't get any variation in the background and the greyscale is so thick that the colors mute out - well, that's what I call too overcast.

I'll show two examples and then leave the topic alone. This discussion could go on and on and this thread is not the place for it.

This photo from yesterday is not very interesting:

Here is a more interesting photo from a few weeks ago:

I find it interesting at least for me that green felts seem to be hardest to render accurate color. Maybe the phone cameras share the same disaffinity for green hats as Stefan.
Yeah I was looking back at some older photos of this hat and none of them really do the color justice, no matter what light. Soft sunlight does seem to work best since it brings out the hue variation in the felt and the ribbon.

I imagine a BGCD suffers the same challenge.

Edit: this one against the bushes backdrop is also interesting, making color appear maybe even taupe-ish.
