Aero jerky horsehide for a motorcycle (Vincent) jacket

Hello,

I am in the process of purchasing a Vincent jacket from Aero, and I am considering getting it in Jerky horsehide instead of FQHH, mainly because I am pretty small (my chest measures 31.5" and I am 5'7" and 120 pounds) and I worry that the thick FQHH will make me look like a child who has dressed up in their father's clothes. However, I will like to have a bit of the stiffness and look of a classic motorcycle jacket, so I have been thinking that the Jerky horsehide might be the best solution. I wear a leather jacket every day, for walking and cycling (not on a motorcycle though) all year round (except during heatwaves), if that is relevant. Should I rather go for the FQHH? Maybe someone has a teenage son (if you aren't yourself my size that is) who has worn a FQHH and can tell me if it looks weird?

Wow, ok I'm convinced I'm getting the FQHH (but perhaps the tumbled option, the breaking-in period doesn't sound too much fun even if it gives macho-points) you look amazing

Thanks! It is beautiful and hefty stuff indeed, but it does show wear sooner than most other leather options - darker top coat rubs off rather easily. The break in is not nearly as bad as some might make it seem. I'd go for cxl steerhide if I were you. Tumbled if you want it softer from the start, but it will get there anyway.

Aero’s seal brown jerky HH is a very underrated option for some reason.
I’ve had multiple Aero jackets in at least 6 or 7 of their leather offerings from CXL to Vincenza and many other options and without a doubt the jerky HH was my favourite.
Comfortable to wear, beautiful colour and drape, and a lot of character.
Do it.

I'd like to try/feel Jerky or Vicenza in person. Usually it looks very meh in the pictures for my taste.

Blackened Brown Vicenza is a great option. The black jerky Plainsman I have is very comfortable, needed no break-in process. It does quickly achieve a teacore effect, though.

Either of these options will be easier to wear than fqhh and less heavy. I have steer and fqhh jackets too: they’re thick and look great, but I’d pick the jerky as an everyday wear.

Given there’ve been a number of individual recommendations for CXFQHH, Vicenza and Jerky I guess it shows that there’s no better solution than actually trying to get to handle the various hides in person.
Of course, sometimes this isn’t always possible but each leather may have its own advantages or disadvantages, and even then some of these will be down to a purely personal choice or dependent on the style and/or usage of the jacket.

How does the colour fade with the Jerky? I am getting it in black, but don't know if some fade better than others, or if they just fade in different ways?

Thank you, I do think I'm slightly obsessing over this, I am sure the jacket will be nice no matter what. I don't have access to check out the different leathers personally in the foreseeable future, but I did see a CXFQHH on an Aero jacket some years ago when I was in Paris and it was so so thick, so maybe I should trust what I thought then, which was that this was too thick for me

Thank you, yes, I have also been thinking that the Jerky (or Vicenza) might also be better since I assume they're less warm (since they're thinner) so that I can wear it a greater portion of the year (layer up during winter and wear it over a t-shirt most of the summer when it's not too warm)

Thank you for your advice. I would get it in black though, I don't know if that changes anything. I know all colours fade, I just want it to fade in the nicest way possible. I have been thinking about Vincenza too, but I have the impression that it is more supple, and I do want it to have a ... don't know how to describe it, I'd like it to have a kind of "stiffer" expression, that it looks a bit rough and durable? But, as I have mentioned above, I might be over-obsessing a bit about this, as I am sure no matter what leather I choose it's gonna look great.

I believe (believe <> know) this is because there is less wax and oil in the leather. For me, CXL is the worst choice when it comes to cold sensitivity.

The lining is definitely the biggest factor. But with the same lining and the same fit, I find CXL cooler.
