Hello everybody.

I registered here some years ago, but I think this is the first time I write.
I just received a used Borsalino hat that I bought on internet.

Could someone give some information about the hat?
I would like to clean it, specially the sweatband, which I am not sure if it is made from leather. I have a Lexol leather cleaner and I plan use it. But, should I clean the felt?
What other things should I do?

Thank you

I will answer that to the best of my knowledge, the hat is from 2002, as the hats were dated on the white tags in those days, prior to the 2017 bankruptcy. The sweatband is leather and could probably use a good conditioning. The felt just needs a good steaming and a horse-hair brushing and you should be good to go. I will tag @steur here, as he is the resident Borsalino expert.

Thank you for your reply.
The hat is older than I expected, but it is not a problem.
I have some products for shoes, maybe I could use any of them on the sweatband. The only problem I see is the direct contact to the skin.
In the same way, I have some horse-hair brushes for shoes. Maybe I can use it on the hat. One of the brush is new, so it is clean.
Is the steaming to reshape the hat, or to satinize it?

Streaming helps to clean and shape a hat. Many here place a hat in the freezer prior to wearing for a day or so to kill off whatever might be lurking. After the freezing, let the streaming begin. Brushes for hats are usually thinner and longer than shoe brushes. Whichever one you use, make sure to brush counter-clockwise on the top of the brim and clockwise under it. Good luck.

Thank you for your explanations.
I will introduce the hat in the freezer. I hope my mother does not find it lol.
Should I introduce the hat inside a plastic bag to put it into de freezer?
