These look great on you! I also only wear mine for Oktoberfest or Bavarian wedding if asked for in the „dress code“. Maybe for fun with friends for a beer ad well. As you said, the nice ones in deer are a joy to wear and it’s actually a pity that you wear them so seldomly..
That’s 2 people that said deerskin is fun to wear. I’m kind of curious now. Funny enough, Lost Worlds leather pants are so cheap in JP, there’s a pair of tan deerskin, 30W, is for sale for a little over $100 before any discount. Too bad it’s a bit small for me. I think it’s been sitting there for months-years.

Sure...for jackets and boots. But leather pants (speaking from experience) and leather shirts (I've been told) just aren't particularly comfortable.
What type(s) of hide were your leather pants?
That would also be my question. Because chamois-tanned deerskin is one of the most comfortable leathers there is.

I've never thought of my lederhosen short pants as comfortable or uncomfortable. They're durable to the point of being super tough and climbing around in the woods or the mountains means (for me) occasionally sitting down on rocks, sticks or whatever's around. Wearing wool knickers I risk damage but the old lederhosen knickers are not going to even notice.
I actually first started wearing them with any regularity when I broke my ankle and they turned out to be super easy to put on where real pants were anything but. Break a leg and knickers are your friend.

I´d agree with you on leather pants (as in, "the stuff Jim Morrison wears").
"Lederhosen" are a traditional garment you rarely wear as an everyday attire (some old-timers do). You just wear it when appropriate and not because it´s comfortable (much like I wear a suit and tie to the office without thinking about it being comfortable or not.).
That said, I can only echo what @MrProper said: the tanning makes the deerskin buttery soft while maintaining it´s sturdy structure. If you control your belly, you can wear it for decades without risk of deterioration.

do struggle with all the "vintage-black" or even grey variants that seem to be all the rage now.
I am just glad that I lost enough kg to properly fit into my MEINDL again. With maybe 2-3 days of wear per year, I wouldn´t invest in a second pair. Plus, all the money goes into a new "Dirndl" for the wife every now and then.

I own a long legged version as well - found 'em in Austria/Styria when i worked there for 3 yrs - historically totally nonsense but i grabbed them anyway - got a huge discount obviously noone else wanted them ... - i wear 'em mainly for hunting as a protection against brushes and thorns
Yeah and i know about them "Dirndls" - "real" ones are kinda "pricey" ...

They weren't particularly expensive since I only really needed them as more of a costume item than club or dress wear. I no longer have them, but I'm pretty sure they were a fairly thin cowhide. Not completely uncomfortable, but I still prefer my Levi's 'cause Elvis Presley I'm not.

Lederhosen are fine for those with roots in or a real love and dedication to the Alpine region to wear as part of the whole costume. As with most such traditional costumes, I find it a bit distasteful when I see them sported by jack the lad types who think they're "funny". You know - like the Englishman who fancies himself a comedian and turns up at a wedding wearing a kilt then spends the day drawing attention to himself and saying loudly "look at me, I'm wearing a skirt!" The idea of a pair of regular short trousers in leather doesn't appeal to me on any level - but then neither do regular short trousers of any sort. I think it's probably a cultural thing... i don't ever recall my own dad or any of his peers wearing shorts away from the beach or the pool, and when I was growing up in 80s Ireland there was still a sort of notion around that short trousers were for children. I think I bought my last pair when I was sixteen, wore then on a grand total of five occasions between then and 21. Never really liked them, and not touched a pair since. The only shorts I've had since have actually been swimwear (and will be gone from my wardrobe if ever I get back in the pool frequently enough to justify the 30s-style one-piece I have half an eye on). If I wear anything other than normal, full length trousers now, it's a kilt - more often a plain, solid-colour option (being Irish), and for formal occasions pretty much always my saffron kilt (also have then in plain black, bottle green, and Wallace tartan, which has a (very loose) family connection).
I did have a pair of leather trousers years ago - picked them up in Camden market for a tenner about 2003. Only ever wore them a couple of times as a sort of costume thing (and once round the house with no shirt on and Iggy Pop turned up Very Loud, I will confess that). Not especially comfortable. I'd wear a pair again if I live somewhere I had space for a motorcycle, but I don't see it being something I'd bother with otherwise. Unless I started spending a lot of time out doors in pouring rain, when a pair of good, chrome-tanned leather strides would hold their own against soaking through.
