Mailman just left this on on the door. An accidental ebay purchase. I intended to add the hat to my watchlist late at night and evidently clicked the "buy it now" button instead. Woke up the next morning to find out that I just bought a hat! Be careful on ebay late at night lol
It a nice, really clean Stetson lid from Marshal Fields. Beautiful felt 2-1/8 brim, 5-1/2" crown. 2-1/4" ribbon. not marked as such but it fits like a 7-1/4 LO so it settles perfectly on my head. The only sort-of issue is that its a Back Bow. ( Im sure I would have noticed that detail if I had looked again with daylight) Oh well its a cute little thing. Havent even brushed it off yet. Im pleased. Time will tell if Im going to play with the bow or just leave it as-is. Tag was torn off under the sweat but was still there. looks like a $10.95 or 12.95 hat from whenever it came from.

The western project hat came in today.. Not really exactly positive what it is, but its a 4x Silverbelly Stetson, and came in whats left of the original box. Felt is in pretty decent shape albeit a bit dirty, the liner is crusty, and the sweatband is in about 4 pieces. 3-1/2" brim 6" crown. No model designation on the box and no tag left under the sweat. Im leaning towards it being a garden variety Rancher. Ill remove the sweat and get ready for a good white gas bath this afternoon. Liner gets a good woolite bath. Then a bit of reblocking and brim flattening, I already have a new Sheepskin sweatband fit and ready to sew in... All in all a decent cheap auction project hat. It should recover nicely. Still trying to decide what Im going to do with the brim... not really big enough for a full brim curl... we shall see. Thinking a braided horsehair band with a tassel would look good

I won an auction last weekend on a great hat at a great price, but I think it sold for less than the seller wanted it to because they haven't shipped it nor responded to my messages. It really irks me when a seller doesn't hold up to their end of the agreement. Now I'm going to have to open a case and wait to get my money back while he will most likely will just relist it.

A TWO hat day here in east Texas! A true Ebay adventure day. A couple of shorter brim lids ( both between 1-7/8 and 2" brims). A black Royal Deluxe Stetson Eagle and a nice dark olive Resistol 880
The Eagle...
The Eagle box was opened and I pulled , and pulled and pulled out 8 pieces of scrunched up packing paper.. Sure enough in the very bottom was an ominous flat plastic mailing envelope with a rather flat and crunched hat inside
FORTUNATELY the felt and Sweatband are in good shape and popped back out decently. Little bit of brushing and steam and it will be fine... It will be a good addition for Stingymas this holiday season. Cute little hat but its a shorty with a 4-1/2" crown. Im NOT going to be bumping the ceiling fans or car headliner with this one lol. Brim is somewhere between 1-7/8-2" The binding on top is about 1/8" and about 3/8" on the underside. Its not marked as such, but it definately fits like a long oval ( yea!!!). Liner is a bit crusty but Im undecided if its bad enough to pull out and clean yet.. All in all this one gave me some trepidation during unboxing, but overall its a winner.

The Resistol...
No big heartburn on this one.... Nice condition original box with a cool belt strap closure. When I first opened the box there was a brief "what the heck" moment as it looked like there was gold glitter all over the hat. Looked a bit closer and found a few bigger pieces, so whenever grandpa put this one away, he wrapped the hat in some kind of an acetate sheet or bag. Over time that sheet absolutely disintegrated into an amber / gold dust. Does not appear that any has stuck to the hat and some canned air blew it pretty much all off
Its a nice Byer-Rolnick Resistol 880 ( another Airplane tribute hat... this one for the Convair 880... the first jetliner I ever flew in) A beautiful soft brown-ish-olive green "Kitten Finish" 3x Beaver felt. Brim is not bound, but there is a little decorative stich row. Brim edge feels thicker and more rigid than the rest of the felt so its not just a raw edge. nice rounded profile to the brim edge, and I dont see any fold over seam, so Im assuming its some kind of felting process. The feather has fallen pretty much apart, but I can dig in the spare part boxes and fix that. And its an actual extra long oval. fits beautifully. I really like this hat a lot. ANOTHER good Stingymas hat. Definately a winner.
Time to vaccum, blow off with air, brush and do some steaming!
