What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Soggy afternoon yesterday, rain overnight and rain expected today... Akubra time! Did a bit of cleaning and shaping on the new-to-me Bluegrass Green Camp Draft yesterday, so its the lid of choice this morning. Hat itself was in decent condition, but the liner was absolutely brown and crusty from pomade stains. Once again Woolite saved the day and its white again.. makes the whole hat look better!

This one just rolled in today. Stetson Mode Edge 3X beaver.

An early-to-mid 1950s hat, it originally came from The Heyman-Fisher Company of Hamilton, Ohio. 2 & 5/8” brim, crown is 4.25” at the front crush and 4.75” on the sides. It’s also got an oddly enchanting button of a rooster attached to the gloriously contrasty green hatband, which I’m pretty sure I’m going to leave on.

This morning's choice is one of the new arrivals that showed up yesterday. I had been on the hunt for a Sovereign with this liner. Turns out this one checks that box quite nicely, but is also an Open Road Stetson Twenty. The felt is buttery soft much like my 7X Clear Beaver and molds easily without steam. I don't particularly care for the cattlemen crease and usually that is one of the first things I change but I'm going to leave this one be for now & see if it grows on me. Lol.

So, yesterday was another banner hat delivery day, seven from various sellers and orders all converging at once. Two of them (part of a three hat set from Goodwill that I bought for the 3rd hat)are either projects for another day or discards and the others may make appearances in various posts throughout this forum in the future.
The one I want to focus on and am wearing today is a Bencraft Parabuntal Straw with a 3" brim (shout out to @besdor). I am certain that these were made for Bencraft by Tesi, as I own a Tesi original that I bought back in 2017 when a hat store in Chicago was closing down. They are virtually identical (except for brim size). For those that have not had the pleasure to hold one of these, see the photos of the scale below. If it weighed any less, I'd have to keep it from floating away. As it is, I have never found its equal as a dress hat to wear in the oppressive southern heat. I have not found a good source for these in the US and the only time I came across one recently it cost 2X what I had originally paid. Couldn't pass this up on the 'bay.

Oh my goodness. I had to check on my postal scale, and yep - it weighs the same as an empty envelope.

Edit: Nevermind, I put my glasses on and now I see that decimal, lol. It's still very light!

Super nice. I agree with the "leave it be for now" thought. Its too easy to just jump in and start personalizing a new hat. Although I usually "make it mine" I have had a few hats that just kept telling me they wanted to stay as-is when I tried..... Never argue unecessarily with a hat! lol

Just arrived. A nice, black number from Henri Henri of Montreal. 4 3/4" slightly tapered, center dent crown, dimensioned brim 2 3/4" front and back with sewn edge. The felt is fairly thin, reminds me a little of Stetson "Royal" felt. Black leather sweat and black liner. Inside tag says Made in Germany. Anybody know what German maker does hats for Henri? All in all, a nice, simple black fedora and I'm happy with it.

Wearing my Akubra Federation IV in heritage fawn today — one of those hats that just keeps improving with age. The felt has broken in nicely, holds a crisp shape even in damp weather, and still does a solid job at keeping the rain off. I gave the liner a light Woolite clean recently and it really brought back some freshness. The Federation line, in my opinion, hits a sweet spot between rugged durability and timeless styling. A dependable classic in any rotation.
