Saw a vintage leather jacket today... have a question about the cuffs

So... the cuffs had two patches of what I would call wool sewn into the cuffs. The jacket also has snaps for what I assume was a matching wool collar.

Should I assume those patches of wool inside the cuffs were fancy wrist warmers, preventing wind from entering the cuff when riding?

I thought it was interesting, never seen it as a jacket feature before, and wanted to know more so sharing here.

Note the hidden lapel snaps. It was a treat for me to see that.

Thanks!

Love your Cal. I have seen those features in other jackets before. You are correct about your assumptions for the purpose of the mouton in the inner lining. When you get a chance, please use a little tallow around the neck area and the entire jacket.

This would have been how they originally looked. Your guess about keeping the wind out is correct.

Sadly, not my jacket. It was on a rack for sale at a vintage market in Raleigh NC. I enjoy learning about "features" in vintage jackets, so it was a treat to see.

This is a precious 50s Cal! All their jackets have these fur patches inside cuffs as an identity feature.
Was it at a good price? Grab it if you see again! ;)

There was no price tag on it, and I did not ask about it as I am not a collector. Might have been differnt if it looked like it fit me and I wanted to wear it. (In a general sense, not just THIS jacket.)

Thanks for the input though!
