Nice little hat.. I have one of these Borsalino Caesar as well.

It was not a keeper. I already sold it, because it was too small for me, while the size was 5 1/2. It turns out to be more like a size 5.

My new Knox Vagabond, it has the Ovalized Sixteenths tag, and the embossed sweat band. The felt is nice, light, and easily moldable. It's a great medium brown color with a dark green ribbon.

Every now and then a rarity appears on the market: an antique wool Peille - Esperaza.

This French manufacturer made hats in huge quantities, but very few noteworthy ones have come to my eyes.

Espéraza is a French commune of 2,096 inhabitants located in the Aude department in the Occitania region. It was the second European center for the manufacture of wool hats. Here is the link to the hats museum https://musee-chapellerie.com/en/home-3/

The hat I found, a stroke of luck, has a peculiarity that is not often found in finds: it was worn with a pin inside that kept the crown curled. You can see it well in the photos.

The hat, a Lord hat that is, a homburg without the ribbon on the brims, is made of wool and has a fantastic color as well as the felt finish.

These are the measurements, the curled brims are six centimeters, the crown is 13 high and the ribbon is 4 centimeters high.

The hat was sold in Belgium in Ypres and arrived in 2025 practically new.

No indication under the sweatband, only the size 57 centimeters, unfortunately for me

I consider myself lucky to have found an old hat so well preserved with the clip mark under the crown, but with the Pellies I have no luck because of the size, this one is small and another, even older probably from the early years of the century is large...

Daniele, Fantastic find! The Wool felt (color, finish) is really beautiful! Also great form and brim work. It's a real beauty!

Brüder Böhm "Ascot", 59 cm, Wool, possibly mid 1930s. First of all I would like to thank Matt for the shipping assistance! This Stiff Felt was made by the Brüder Böhm Neutitschein / Nový Jičín, Czechoslovak factory. The Wool Felt has a Chamois like finish and is in mint condition. The overall all condition of this Stiff Felt is excellent. The only flaw is that the wind cord is missing. This is a really great example of a fantastic Wool Stiff Felt!

Just got this guy in the mail today. Don't know anything about it other than it fits (would fit better with sweatband) and the felt seems really nice and shapable. I love the "feathers" in the ribbon. They seem like some good folk art. Any thoughts on what to do for the sweatband? I mostly will wear it as a knock around/working hat but maybe some sort of sweatband would be good?

Nice old beater. If you are handy with a needle and thread you can put in a sweat yourself.. there are some good suppliers on Etsy. Or any decent hatter could do that service for you if you want it done right.

pss… Truth be told…. If you can’t do the sewing thing.. some double sided gorilla tape can do the trick on a beater like this (shhhh)

Stefan, Thanks again! I was surprised when I found this one from a German seller. The location of the shop that sold it was not far from Nový Jičín / Neutitschein. I was thinking it was in good condition but when Matt took a look, he said it was in fine condition.

Cool find. Marcel. Sportex as a designation first shows up in the thirties, but I haven't found a trademark with this logo. Seems very thirties in its design as well. The hat looks much later though, probably sixties or early seventies, when a lot of these stitched decorations show up.

Thanks Stefan! There's no label inside unfortunally, but the lining is stitched in, not glued.

Found a hat I could no longer resist. Had it on my watchlist for ages. Here it is.

Vimenet lords hat in brown. Size 56 with the brim at just about 5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. The felt is great, as expected. Great hand to the felt, modest in its proportions. Weighs 115 grams.
Not much more to tell, except maybe that the "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." on the liner is interesting. This brand rarely turns up over here, but they seem to have had an active export line to the U.S. since they do show up there on occasion. Brent @deadlyhandsome has one on the bay right now.

Looks like mine indeed. My brim is a bit wider, about 5 cm. The fit of the hat is great btw! Very comfortable.

R. & M. Wenger "Elasticon", 59cm, possibly later 1920s. This is my first R. & M. Wenger Stiff Felt find after looking for many years. The black Fur Felt is very dense with a fine smooth finish. A jaunty shorter length bow is a stand out. Great looking form and high quality overall workmanship. Also the condition is excellent.

Unfortunately the original cord was removed.
