Type III come summer! I tried to saddle soap a soot stain from campfire coals on my sleeve, no bueno, as they say But that's what you get when you wear these jackets honestly, and in the wild!

As with all these things, it's fake-it-till-you-make it.

I was a super shy kid, and I started to wear a brimmed hat to "practice being brave." I was shy to get a leather Jacket, but I reckoned, this is also practicing being brave. Then I was shy to go from the wool Tilley to the leather cowboy hat I have now, but I told myself again, good practice being brave!

I teach gradeschool English and wear this outfit to work--and I tell my students the same story: we're all shy and afraid, and I'm no less shy or afraid, had my share of teasing and bullying as a kid, but practicing being brave--this is something that's worth practicing for all of us.

I love how @Feliksas drops by here once a year and just blows the place up with this jacket. This has to be be, along with @navetsea natural hide jacket, the best self-aged jacket on TFL. It makes me feel like a faker wearing vintage, lol.

I love this forum, and feel we're all striving for the same thing--I wish I could give more time to posting, but I suppose that what we wear and how we wear it shows the way. What I have is the implied journey with this custom J-106 and Type III

Yes, it is the Jaakari M! Although it was my first love, the XL has taken its place.

Wax and neatsfoot oil will help break in that unfinished leather shirt of yours - where did you get yours?

Ho, lads! Another year, another update:

I greased the jacket for the first time in years, with my proprietary formula that I've shared with some of you--still, a bit of nice marbling, and the leather is of course super soft after all these years.

Below, you can see creasing, which I think is from my backpack wear

One shot of me in mostly full costume, minus the boots!

Now, look what was happening to my lining already in 2024, and earlier:

Probably just 2 years in, I had to get the entire bottom lining replaced, because it was torn to shreds from daily wear; not impressed.

Behold, the state of affairs in early 2024:

By late 2024, it was even worse than the pictures below shows:

I ended up getting my local seamstress to replace the entire lining with cotton drill, although it's a shame, because one wants to avoid re-stitching the same lines on leather, as obviously, it's weakened when one does so. I would never ever get the expensive wool tartan lining again, nor would I recommend it for a "serious" leather jacket wearer.

Any questions? In the meantime, I'm still looking for recommendation for who might be able to make an veg-tanned, unfinished, 1.5mm+ horse-hide chore jacket/filson-short-cruiser-knockoff for me in Europe.

I have found too that Aero´s LLocharron-lining, beautiful as it is, is not really durable and will come away where it is rubbing against other fabrics (hem, armpits).

I have nebver had that happen with cotton drill, so this is my go-to now.

Every time I see your jacket, I think I should just have one leather jacket and actually wear it. But I know myself, that's only nice in theory lol
